Took my grandson and wife out to gardom lake, just outside of Salmon Arm. tried everything under the moon. πŸ˜• couldn’t manage a single bite. My wife doris thought she felt a bite, but that woman couldn’t feel a truck if it hit her.

    • admin says:

lol … now that’s funny! πŸ˜€ Thanks for the report!

    • Lyle says:

Hey Clyde, I used to live by Gardom and fished it last weekend with my son while in town. I must say it was fantastic. Fish to 20″. For me, green (olive) works best and I prefer the right side when looking out from the launch. Olive leeches (#8) and chironies (#14-16). There was a fellow in the bay before the bible camp doing very well with a pumpkin head also. Hope this helps. Lyle
PS – you’ll (or Doris) will know when they bite…..believe me!

      • Clyde Hartzog says:

Thank you very much Lyle! I will have to get back out there in the near future and try it out again! I appreciate the info.:-D

    • Dawn says:

Clyde, you better hope your wife doesn’t read these reports!!! If I were your wife, I’d kick you overboard!!! lol

  2. sully says:

Going fishing near merrit this weekend, any suggestions?

    • AJ says:

Try Plateau. There was a phenomenal sedge hatch there around this time last year.

      Good luck

      • sully says:

thank you , do you know any lakes that i should try. Last year i tried Kane but didn’t get any good results.

      • sully says:

omg thats embarrassing i thought plateau was a fancy name for the area? didnt know it was a lake.LOL.

  3. Clyde Hartzog says:

Wanting to try a bit of river fishing, (from shore) where would be my best bet to spend the day? What fly’s would be my go to flies? Thanks in advance for any info, it’s greatly appreciated.

    • ollie says:

Hello Clyde been there all week I see the swallows towards dark picking on small black flys so I would say black knats or moskitos.or the odd moth. We been doing OK on eggs or the spoon kamlooper. Find the bank to high to fly fish but thats me. Cambell Ck , K mart beach , riverside park ,Mac park or ever Kamloops Lk are spots to try. Best of luck to you.
      Ollie

    • Newflyguy says:

I went to Jacko lake on Wednesday night and it was turning over. How long does it normally take and when will it be back to normal?

  5. sully says:

whats the diffrence between gun metal and antistatic bag? and should i use scud hooks for chronies?

  6. Paul says:

    12.25 lb red lake rainbow

    • sully says:

wow thats a beut paul, isnt the lake turned over yet?

    • Darryl says:

Paul, congratulations on such a great fish. I have seen fish to just under 10 lb caught there, but this is something special. Di you catch it there that late into June? And do you mind me asking if you were using a fly or spin-casting. I hooked one last year that was a serious heavy weight. Lost it though. I am glad you got yours.

      Cheers,

      Darryl

  7. Newflyguy says:

Can anyone confirm if Jacko is still turning over? I went last Wednesday and it was. I’m hoping to go after work tomorrow if its in good condition now.

  8. sully says:

when a lake turns over in the summer it last until the lake has cooled down I’m thinking it will be ready by september. you should try lakes with high elevation.

  9. Clyde Hartzog says:

Jacko is turning over? I am a bit skeptical πŸ˜‰ maybe you forgot your clean your glasses? Anyways, Doris and I spent the long weekend at Roche Lake with the Grand-kids. I must say, fishing was slow! πŸ˜₯ On the second day with only one fish, Doris snarked at me, “Well Clyde you must be doing something wrong.” Oh boy that woman makes my blood boil. Needless to say, Doris spent the rest of the weekend on shore. On Sunday the fishing picked up and I was hooking them one after the other, mostly on a green leech with a pink head. Size 10, I would recommend a slow troll and in about 25ft. of water. At that point Doris was allowed back in the boat and she hooked into beauty which broke off right beside the boat. She blamed it on my netting but she’s out to lunch. Overall it was a great weekend!

    • newflyguy says:

I learn something new everyday :). Any idea if McConnell lake would have the algae bloom at the moment? I want to get out tomorrow after work somewhere close to town.

  10. mark says:

Any fishing reports from Island big OK this season?

  11. The Force says:

Fished shuswap a bit on the weekend, was more of a family camping trip so didn’t put much time into it. Tried fly fishing the mouth of the Adams with no luck, though I could see lots of fish. Also tried out my new down riggers and caught one laker and a koke. I’m starting to get the kokanee itch, anyone know of any good resources for targeting them locally? I’ve read lots about the tactics they use down in Cali, I doubt it is much different up here.
Anyway will likely fish Monte mostly, maybe make a weekend trip up to bridge lake area. Also noticed that they have stocked a pile in stump, but have never caught any there, has anyone else? Advice appreciated (downriggers or fly rod).
    thanks.

  12. Brady says:

I left a mesage a few weeks back asking for adice on lakes like Bulman, John Frank, Dardenelles, and Pleateau but got no reply. I see a lot of the same lakes being discussed over and over again but not much conversation on the smaller ones. Any info on some of these lakes that are off the beaten path a ways would be awesome.

    • Clyde Hartzog says:

Hi Brady, maybe you are unaware that there was some discussion on Plateau above. Also, I haven’t seen you contribute anything to this page lately? Maybe you shouldn’t be telling others what their doing wrong when you do nothing yourself. Just my two cents. Clyde

    • admin says:

      Plateau: See posts above.
Dardanelles: Nice little lake, 3N Pennasks but they can be finicky!
John Frank: Like Bleeker shallow and prone to winter kill but if it survives a few years it can be good. No trips.
Bullman: Another nice little lake, 2N’s but scrappy as hell!
Regardless of which you choose i would be thinking caddis this time of year.
Looking forward to reading your reports. πŸ™‚

      • Brady says:

Thanks a lot for the reply, much appreciated. I will post again after our trip and let you know how we do.

  13. Mark Y says:

    thnks

  14. Newflyguy says:

Went to McConnell lake on Wednesday after work. Was there for 5 or hours and caught three fish. Two under 12 inches and the one in the picture.

    • Clyde Hartzog says:

Congrats Newflyguy that a beauty! Looks like a dragonfly nymph on floating line?

      • newflyguy says:

Thank you! Only my second fish on my first ever fly rod! Dragonfly nymph on sinktip line actually

  15. Newflyguy says:

Caught a few of this size trout a ways up tranquille stream today.

    [img][/img]

    Awesome day of fishing!

    • Ron W says:

Fantastic colours and markings on those native stream trout. I remember my father taking me up Tranquille/Watching creeks as a child to fish for them and thinking that they must be a different species than the trout I caught in lakes.
