    Went to Heffley today…

It was an extremely slow go (I tried just about everything :-?),

…But, I still manged to get one using a pink feathered jig with a small piece of cooked prawn on the hook , got him in maybe 20 ft of water and just a couple feet off the bottom. Good Luck! They’re hiding out somewhere, and seem to be very picky!

  2. Craig says:

Anyone know if Monte is fishable?

Any other good kokanee ice spots?

    Thanks
    CS

    • Jet says:

As of Dec 30 still some open water on Monte Lake. Just means the Kokanee will be that much bigger once it freezes over!!!

  3. Rob says:

Hiked out to Kamloops lake to do some burbot fishing last night …

    [img][/img]

… not the best action we’ve ever had but we did manage a couple and lost a couple more over the course of a few hours. It gets cold in the wee hours so if you go bundle up!

For those that have asked, we are working on a “how to burbot” article so stay tuned! πŸ˜‰

  4. Evan says:

Does anybody know what the roads and fishing would be like at North Barriere around this time of the year? I have heard there is a large variety of fish in there and some can grow quite large?

    • jfm says:

I have been Snowmobiling in the area and the North Barriere Lake Road is plowed as logging operations at 8km and 24 km. Watch out for logging trucks week days as many spots are narrow. You will find areas around 13km and 14km where locals fish-if the ice is on yet. I have not checked. Locals catch Rainbows, Lake Trout, Dolly Varden\ Bull trout and Burbout. I can find out this weekend and will update..JFM

  5. Evan says:

Awful fishing at Edith today! πŸ™ I was with a group of four and there were three others nearby I was talking with, between seven lines and all sorts and kinds of bait, hooks, jigs etc. Nothing! We seen a few swim by, but not one little nibble! Two guys left to go and try the other side of the lake, where there were more tents and came back a couple hours later saying that they didn’t even see one! Oh well…maybe better luck next time! (thanks jfm for the info)

  6. Colin Piper says:

anyone know if it is safe to fish by the island at red lake yet? i know someone cut a bunch of big holes in it in december. Thinking of trying there tomorrow.

    • L says:

Red Lake is safe to fish anywhere around the Island. Recent colder weather should make the ice conditions even better. There was some water on top of the ice in some spots that should be frozen solid now. Be careful around reedy areas. The reeds are rotting right now, causing some heating of the water around the reeds and less stable ice formation. Someone took a shortcut and fell through to their waist a few weeks ago.

  7. Gene says:

anyone fish Stump Lake? im lookin for a place to catch some kokanee?

    • Rob says:

Don’t know about Stump but I heard there were a couple crazies on Monte yesterday but am skeptical that the ice is thick enough yet.

  8. Derek says:

Anyone hit Red in the last couple of days? It was slow last week when I was there and has been for me almost all season but I might head there tomorrow anyway.

    • Colin Piper says:

Red was pretty good good to me today. I caught a couple small brookies, then got a 2.5 pound bow and a nice keeper brookie. We talked to other people there and everyone seemed to be catching fish.

  9. Manny says:

Hey there, I live on the coast and trying to find a close lake to do some ice-fishing near Merrit. I don’t have a snow mobile so it has to be near a plowed road or on the hwy.
    Thx for the help ;0)

  10. clay says:

heading up to tunkwa for the weekend. i have read there website report but was just wondering if anyone has any other info on the fishing?

    • RB says:

Pro-cured shrimp in 2-4 feet of water working the best. Tunkwa has been hit and miss with fish to 3lbs, neighboring Leighton has been doing better but smaller fish (mainly Blackwater with the odd Pennask) 1-2 lbs with an occasional bigger one. Fishing can be “on” and “off” with best times early a.m. and a 1 p.m. bite.
Slushy spots are now frozen over both lakes.

  11. John says:

Is burbot fishing any good in the day ? Or should I just go ice fishing ? I just got back from Kamloops lake from 5-9:00 and it was beyond slow between 2 of us we only hooked into one but lost in in the rocks it was my first attempt at burbot so I’m guessing I just don’t know what I’m doing ?

    • Jordan says:

Hey john, a buddy and i were out at kamloops lake the same night just at the second tunnel i suspect you guys were the ones at the first tunnel with the fire right? Haha we had pulled in one fish by the end pf the night and had another huge bite. Just courious as to what you were useing for gear and bait??

      • John says:

Yeah that was us ! We used trout rods with 1.5 ounce banana weight 4 foot leader to a salmon hook and we tried chicken gizzard and beef liver and the liver got the one bite. I’m gonna try again and I wanna try some new baits.

    • Fishpimp says:

January is the only month to catch burbot through the daylight hours. However; I wouldnt expect it to be spectacular. Keep your activities to the dark hours, fish the first 9 days before the full moon. Then wait untill 9 days after the full moon to resume fishing. Use a three way swivel system with about 2 feet between your weight and the swivel. Then a piece about 8 inches off the side to your hook (use a 6/0 gamigatsu single) for the weight use a 4 oz bouncing betty( less likely to snag) pree tie golf ball sized roe bags ( best bait for cod other than the illegal stuff) don’t be scared to drag your gear in slowly across the bottom movement Realy helps.

      • Jordan says:

Hey john another quick question did the burbot you guys cought have any size to it???

        • Fishpimp says:

We’ve been catching burbot to 18 lbs this winter . These are not smart fish !! It’s more about timing and good bait than anything else.

        • John says:

Never did see it and I’ve never fought one before but it did feel pretty big it fought nothing like a salmon or trout and it didn’t want to run but it did get into some rocks not to far from shore and the line snapped while trying to get it out

      • arek says:

i always wanted to try that! do you use cured roe ? im gonna go tomorrow night… what do you thing are best times to get one?

        • arek says:

me and my buddies tryed last night got one squa and few bites between 6-12am was hoping for bit more actions… we tryed squid and roe

  12. The Force says:

About 3″ of ice at Monte, Koke’s were biting decent. Suspended at 20-25 fow

  13. Jac Timber says:

Is anyone using quads to get out on the ice??

    • John says:

Lots of people on red lake use quads I always see tracks. fishing this morning at red was fantastic up until 10:30 only with worms

  14. Jac Timber says:

Is anyone selling an aluminum trailer 5’x8′ or does anyone know of who might be selling one?

  15. The Force says:

Was out for a sled ride today into Scuitto and Campbell, lots of slush out there (ice was good last week). Just a heads up.

    • Jac Timber says:

Is there an alternate entry to Campbell Lake? I know about the one thru Scuitto Lake but heard of an entrance opposite the campsite.

      • Looper says:

The access at Campbell across from the campsite is private. I do not recommend you trying that access point. The landowners stopped all public access from that side after far too many idiot incidents.

        • Jac Timber says:

I heard from a very reliable source that access from the north side of the campground on Campbell Lake is possible. The guys simply leave their vehicle at the gate and walk down to the lake. Is this accurate??
