  1. Fishinchicken says:

Off to red tomorrow for the day. Looking forward to getting some of those football Brookies.

    • Fishinchicken says:

Fished red on Saturday. Pretty slow day for us. Didn’t get any but had a few good hits. Lots of people fishing but didn’t see a lot caught.

  2. the force says:

What’s the word this weekend? I fished horseshoe today and brought one brookie home for supper….saw lots, had a few small ones on but only iced the one keeper. Aerator is running and lake is slushy in places.

  3. Wayne says:

Any word on the derby at red this weekend? I couldn’t make it this year anyone know what the winning fish was? Friend of mine was up there didn’t even get one

  4. Jet says:

Red Lake has cooled off. Was there before daylight this morning and fished till 11:30, only got one bite. Fish would cruise by and not even seem to notice the lure.

No one seemed to be catching much.
Come on Monte Lake freeze already!!!

  5. Harrison says:

Haven’t made to red this year, seems to far for us to go from kamloops when edith is producing nice fish for us every time, on sunday we caught 7 nice fish and tons of little ones, we had 3 rainbows and 3 brook trout from 14-17 inch

  6. Evan says:

…heard the same about Red from others. But that’s fishing I guess, great one day and then dead the next. It’ll pick up again.

I’ve made a couple trips out to Edith and Red, Logan just this past weekend. So far Red’s been easily the best for me, Edith OK, steady but nothing extraordinary and alot more smaller brookies compared to Red. And I still have yet to catch a rainbow over 2lb’s since the ice has been on : ( My first time ice fishing Logan wasn’t at all what I expected either, that is, we didn’t catch a single fish and if you like watching the activity under the ice like I do, there’s just too many weeds and the water clarity was very poor/ low visibility under ice, my favorite half of the lake is closed through Feb. to fishing for skating/hockey and we only seen ***ONE*** fish! Over a 5 hour period! I couldn’t believe it! (very strange). We had two bites in the last hour after packing up the tent and only seen one fish pulled out between everyone on the ice, It’s usually a really productive little lake.

I heard from a co-worker Rose was good fishing and rumor was Black has been alright, I am curious about Bleeker? Heffley? anyone got any info?

    • fishaholic says:

I to have herd about rose and would like to try it. I have pulled some lunkers out of Bleeker but it has been dead for the last couple years.

    • admin says:

Yes Black has been fishing well but the biguns have been elusive. They are getting them pretty steady at Heffley too … 2ish pounds avg but always the chance for a lunker there. If quantity is your thing (action for the kids, etc) give Stake, McConnell or Deep a go! As for Bleeker, maybe, but if it were me I’d try a bit further down the road πŸ˜‰

  7. Evan says:

    Appreciate the replies, thanks!

  8. doug says:

was at monte sunday. about 2″ ice around edge but soft. i wouldn’t walk out more than 3 ft, the wind was breaking some of it up to. still 1/3 open.

  9. Jet says:

Looking for an update on Monte.
Hoping this last cold spell has it frozen and fishable.
If any one out there has some info please post.

    Thanks

    • the force says:

still some open water on the NE side. South end is froze over though it is probably still a little early. You could fish near the shore for rainbows …

    • trouthunta says:

There were 5 guys fishing monte as i drove by on saturday. There as a little water around the edge on the end closest to kamloops but all guys were fishing the end closest to vernon. I can not speak about ice thickness as i was only driving by. I know i would not have gone out there i don’t think, but there were guys out there. I came back through there today and no one was fishing.

    • Jet says:

Thanks for the reports. Looks like it won’t be safe till the new year. Heading out to stake today for the first time.

  10. Jet says:

    Merry Christmas fellow anglers.
Hope Santa brings ya all your favourite fishing stuff!!

  11. Derek says:

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All!!!

As always at this time of year, I will be driving by Monte Lake on the 26th; I will look for any open water, fishermen, and their locations, then report later that day or on the 27th.

  12. Evan says:

Now that the ice has been on for while, some of you may have found what I have been experiencing and that is, the fish have been pretty reluctant to take the usual presentations that were working well earlier on when the lakes first froze. I’m always experimenting changing things up quite often, trying everything I know, to see what seems to work the best for the given day or week. While just about anything still will work, I’ve recently found these past couple days that the smaller the better and losing the bait entirely was surprisingly getting better results. After watching many fish disregard my various jig’s and bait below and instead bite a small black swivel I have attached from my main line to leader, I decided it’s time to try simple, small and shiny… And what better than to bust out the flybox, I was needless to say pleased with the results! Though the fish may not find this as appealing a week from now…I now know, when the regular ice fishing with jigs and various baits slow’s down, to try some flies! On another note I took my sister in law and nephew out for their first time on the ice today at Edith and they both caught some nice fish on dew worms both Rainbow and Brookies …

Here’s my little buddy Linden with his very 1st fish ever!

    • ollie says:

hey Evan How was the water up there clear or muddy/dirty. thanks if you dont mind
      Ollie

    • admin says:

Very kewl Evan thanks for the report. I too have found that once things slow down for the typical winter offerings digging through the good old flybox can sometimes help! For those interested here is an article that on the subject that was posted last year: https://flyguys.net/fishing-information/ice-fishing/ice-fishing-with-flies

On another note that chronie is killer at Red when the bombers are hatching πŸ˜‰

      Cheers … Rob

    • Joe says:

Hey Evan, it’s great to see Linden and all the young kids out there fishing. I headed off the lake a few days a go and stopped to BS with a Dad who was out for the day with his son & daughter. As we were chatting the two kids were fishing away when his daughter landed a nice 2 lb Brookie. The two kids were looking it over when his son decided to show me his fly box and what they had been catching their fish on. No bait…..and both of the kids were telling me what each fly was and how many fish they had caught with them. It was pretty cool to listen to these two youngsters explain why they thought their flies worked so well. I would put them at 10 and 12 years old. Dad was pretty quiet – but he certainly knew they had been listening! When all else fails…use Robbie’s flies!

  13. Jet says:

Went to Stump Lake this morning. Had never fished it before. Went looking for Kokanee.
Did a lot of moving around trying to find them. Was not marking very many on the fish finder. Did find one area that had a few. They were hanging close to the bottom in 46 feet of water. Lots of soft bites, but did finally manage to get one out of the hole. Lots of fun. About six inches of ice and no snow on the lake made for easy sled pulling.

  14. the force says:

They’ve sure been stocking Stump heavy with Koke’s but I heard that they weren’t doing that well. Fished it once last summer with no luck, though the trout aren’t too bad.
Monte is froze up well on the south end (solid 4″). Not sure about the N end, as there were open patches last week. Use caution if you venture over there. Only had a couple hours to fish- found one school, caught one and ran out of time. 25fow.

  15. admin says:
