Anyone know if Red Lake is fishable yet? All this cold weather I would think its getting close.

  2. shay says:

I was fishing Lundbom in mid November. The average fish was about 3lbs 3 ounces. Over all fishing was slow but productive enough to stay for 5 days.

  3. admin says:

Niko with a Red lake FATSO Brookie!

    • ollie says:

We came home with our limit of all fatso’s 2days back. There smoked and awesome so next lake and again our limit. So good luck to all and change your hooks if the one your using is not working.
      Ollie

  4. FishNaked says:

Any Idea how Edith and Deep are doing for ice?

  5. ollie says:

So any ice forming up that way ( the force)
    Ollie

    • the force says:

I assume you’re talking about Monte? Haven’t been past it lately but am doubtful. Did stop at Red last Saturday and jigged a small spoon and micro leach for 45mins. Saw a few on the cam but no bites… 3 -4″ on the far south end. If you’re willing to share some of your lure choices I’m all ears Ollie.
Had deer on the radar so didn’t stick around very long.

      • ollie says:

ICE FLYS, SHRIMP,MAGGOTS OR MEALWORMS. EVEN A BARE HOOK and its your choose and eyes not ears LOL
        Ollie

        • the force says:

Thanks Ollie, yea practice probably makes perfect. I’m used to perch an northern pike….haven’t totally got the trout figured out yet. Seems that they like less lure action. Just need to put some hours in.

          • ollie says:

THE FORCE you say the perch and northern pike. I did the pike and walleye up North Was on my own for the first bit but meet others and got tips from them. Got me fish too. If you need a hand figuring any of it out here , let me know I do pretty good Ollie

  6. Evan says:

Drove up to Sun Peaks today, I was surprised to see somebody out fishing on Little Heff this morning, Big Heff appeared to still have a ways to go, seen a lot of open water.

  7. Jet says:

    Was at Red yesterday.
    Awesome day, no wind.
Caught my limit including a 5 lb rainbow that fought like crazy.
About 4 inches of ice, good and solid, I was fishing around the island.

  8. Harrison says:

Fishing is awesome so far we’ve pulled multiple rainbows over 20″ out this week around kamloops

  9. Joe says:

Hey Guys, I know there’s a lot of fish being smoked right now, and we all have a brine recipe that we really like. I have a “base” brine that I use all the time that I tweak to get a slightly different taste out of it. I’ve tasted some awesome smoked trout / Brookies that are a lot different than mine. How ’bout it….? I’ve listed my base brine below, anyone else want to chip in with their favorite mix? Christmas is coming and the cheer is always better with awesome smoked fish!

    2 cups brown sugar
1/3 cup Montreal steak spice (**originally seasoning salt)
    1 tbsp. mustard powder
    1 tbsp. garlic powder

**I originally sprinkled the Montreal steak spice on the fish on the racks, now I put it in the brine.

I prepare my fish the day I catch them, and leave them in the brine for 72 hours in the fridge before I smoke them and they turn out awesome. This recipe does roughly 5 – 8 fish.

Look forward to a new brine for the next batch!

  10. Evan says:

Good fishing at Red today, me and buddy fished just outside of all the reeds by the cabins. Lot’s of big hungry brook most averaging 2.5lbs, even had one try to eat my swivel! Didn’t see any rainbows. Krill, Shrimp on glow hooks, Ice was 5″
(some people are taking over their limits!)

  11. Harrison says:

Fishing slow and steady all morning today at Edith caught 5, 14″ brook trout and 5 10-13″ brookies as well as couple small ones, fishing is good, how did everyone else do, we released all of our fish

  12. Jet says:

Does anyone have info on ice fishing stump for Kokanee. They stock it with 80000 Kok’s each spring so should be good fishing through the ice???

    Let me know,
    Thanks

    • admin says:

Here’s an article re ice fishing Kokanee on Monte a couple years ago …

      https://flyguys.net/fishing-reports/ice-fishing-kokanee

… not Stump but the technique will be similar.

The problem with Stump now a days is locating the fish. If you can get over them you should have a great day but even this spring it was a challenge to find them. The Force reports that ice is already out a 100′ from shore at Monte though so stay tuned … as soon as it’s safe enough that’s where we will be! πŸ™‚

  13. Harrison says:

the kokanee fishing is amazing at Monte, and this year I plan on hitting stump a bunch to try for some big rainbows and for kokanee which I imagine will be pretty good fishing.

As well Edith is fishing very well right now, just had another afternoon with 8 fish 3 rainbows 19″ 18″ and 15″ 5 brook trout all over 13″

    • admin says:

Thanks! Might hit Edith this weekend. How much ice on Monte?

      • Harrison says:

Edith slow and steady this am only 3 fish, a nice 17.5″ rainbow with a foot of blue mono and a small lead jig head with a worm still on it, the rainbow took about 6 looks at my bait before hitting it. Last I heard no ice on monte, that was last week though

  14. the force says:

Word on Monday was that ice extended about 100′ off shore at Monte.

  15. Jet says:

A co-worker drove by Monte on Sunday afternoon and said the north end was frozen over and saw on angler out fairly close to shore.
    Shouldn’t be to long.
