Fished Roche on the weekend it was pretty slow for everyone. I managed to get into 4 fish on chironomids while my buddy got into a couple as well fishing leeches under an indicator. Gang trollers were picking up the odd fish as well. Water temps were up to 72 by mid day.
Does anyone know if jacko has cleared up yet? Will it clear up or does it have a constant algae bloom all summer?
It does clear up but with this weather I doubt it has started to yet. I wouldn’t let that stop me though because the algae typically sits in the top of the water column (needs sunlight) and this time of year the fish are usually deep π
It hasn’t cleared up at all but fishing is still half decent, Lot’s of chironimid casing’s on the water.
buying hooks should i get caddis curved hooks or scud for chironomids
For #18 – #10 I like Togens Scuds (see their banner ad in the sidebar) or Mustad C49S if you want a slightly straighter back section. If you’re tying igger than #10 scud then I like hooks shaped like the TMC 200R or Mustad C53S.
I too can vouch for the Togens hooks. For the price you cant beat the quality and quantity. My favorite chironie hook is the Mustad C068. A heavy hook but curved both ways. I believe they are no longer made though but they can be manually.
Was at Knouff yesterday, couldn’t seem to get a bite flyfishing, (mostly tried leeches and scuds.) Managed a couple bites w/gang trolls, but still unsuccessful. Didn’t see anyone catch a single fish all day.
Been out to Heffley a few times last week and has been absolutely awesome fishing but alot of small fish.
I am curious…Anyone ever fish that 1st really small lake heading to Roche…Rose I think it’s called? Almost dragged the boat in the other day but was unsure if I’d be wasting my time?????
i tried that lake offshore didn’t get any fish but saw a lot of fish jump and they were big (4-5lb) near the end of the lake.
I caught one – ffsbc pink tagged trout!
Funny story, went to Sheridan area about 2 months ago and the first lake we hit was Irish. Four of us fished it for a couple hours and I was the only one to catch a fish and it happened to be one of the 300 tagged rainbows stocked by ffsbc. Then I lost it! Or so I thought. Two months later I dawn the waders to fish the Coq (when I caught my first steelhead on the fly) and I unzip the inside pocket of my waders and discover the tag I must have placed there. Only the first 150 reported tags will receive $100 rewards while the rest receive other prizes. Believe it or not I am still one of the first 150 and my cheque is in the mail!
Keep an eye out for those tags!
Right on Mark congrats!
Could someone please post a picture of what anti static bag looks like. Thanks.
OK (sorry a bit blurry)

Looks like a throw pillow Rob.
ya I fill em with marabou feathers and store them around the house like that so they’re always readily available! π
thanks alot
Getting into fly fishing this year and having a blast doing it so far. Only decent area i’ve been to or even heard about is Alwin Holland Park though. For someone whose living in FSJ and doesnt want to have to drive two hours + to a great flyfishing area with good shore access -where should I go? I’m not super interested in fishing lakes (charlie has made me bored of it) and I’m longing for some quite river fishing but just dont know the area well enough to know where the fish are. Anyone who can tell me places and how to get there i’d be super grateful!
I’m not sure where fsj is but i did have some good success at allouette river last weekend using a pheasant tail nymph.
jk it was in june but it actually good fishing
Ok Im reading up on Mcgillvery Lk another one that says it has Kokanee. Just wondering if it does. Thanks for any info.
Ollie
oops My mistake its Niskonlith lake. my mistake sorry
Yes it has kokanee but they are small, 10in would be a big
one
Thanks cal Im sure theres other lakes in our area that have the kok’s too
Ollie
McGillivray Lake doesn’t have koks in it. There are some decent fish in it but difficult to locate; mostly smallish stuff.
Tranquille Lake has Kokanee. It was nice to see that Paul was stocked with a ton of triploid fry earlier this year, which will be nice when they grow bigger.
Most cold beer stores have kokanee.
thats the best kind of kokanee. You can also catch them at Monte
and Nicola.
Im going to North Barreir Lake this weekend any tips would be helpful
North Barriere Lake is fishing very slow. it is a deep lake(170 feet) with dark water. Down riggers at 80 ft with Apex or plugs have caught fish in the last 2 weeks. Troll fast. I fish at 2.9-3.3 miles per hour using my gps to track speed…Hope that helps…JFM
thank you for your suggestions ill give it a try this weekend
Thinking about giving peter hope a shot, any info on the launch? Can I put in a 16ft (have 4wd, need 2-3′ water)? thanks.
No problem …
Hello,
A group of us are planning to go to Kump lake in early October. Can anyone share with us what we can expect as far as fishing and what fly’s are recommended.
thanks
How’s fishing been around the kamloops Merritt area. Headin out fishing for the week before long weekend just wondering what my best bet is?
How about Murphy lake up by the old toll booth?
Didn’t make it to peterhopeless, though did get onto the Thompson and got some action on the dries! Nothing big but a few scrappers.
Fished Roche today. Water temp started at 63F and made it up to 66F. Managed to land 4 fish, none of any size. Got them on Chironies size 16 anti static bag red rib and olive green red rib. Still quite a bit of algae in the water.
