Darryl….! Good to see you’re with us! I’m sure you’re watching the ice-off reports with interest. Any predictions?
Horseshoe Lake
Marquart… Lundbom is still iced to the edges as mentioned earlier.
Went up to Stump yesterday. Beautiful weather. Managed to get 6 to the boat, all around 14″ on damsel fly nyphs.
Any chance Courtney is free by sunday with this beautiful weather?
Sorry for late reply Mark but I just got word that Courtney is now fishable, but, I do not know the guy that reported it so …….
hearing multiple reports that it is open now
Ya, RC varifies it first hand as he fished it Sunday …

Pretty sure I know where you will be this coming weekend π
Edith today
and the video … thanks JoJoNed!
I understand 6 mile lake near Kamloops has been open for a few weeks. Does anyone know if it has turned over yet?
Anyone been to Lundbom today? Hoping all this sun has done some damage to the remaining ice….looking to make the drive out tomorrow morning
I was there yesterday and it was iced to the edges. Starting to soften up but I don’t think it’ll be ready by Sunday..
Thanks, much appreciated
Hello there I’m looking to fish the roche lake area next weekend and am wondering what lakes will be open thank you
Going to be really tight…there might not be much open water up that way within a week. Bleeker is typically the first to open. Horseshoe will also have plenty of open water thanks to the aerator.
the lakes aren’t close at all, we’ve been checking twice a week. Bleeker was the closest we saw but was still a couple weeks away.
Had a killer day on red today and Edith yesterday
is red lake ice free
Neither is ice free completely yet. Just fish able
Are you able to get a boat in red or just shore fishing?
Fished sciutto this morning , about half covered , good action first thing , lots rolling and finning. Nothing to the boat but should have ! Black stone fly got a few strikes
Drove kane valley and barely any melt around the edges even English. Tunkwa tonight.. had a few bites..
Fellow FlyGuys,
To those who had some extra gear lying around, and generously offered to donate these items to the Logan Lake Secondary Outdoor Ed. / Fly Fishing Program –
THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!!!
Currently we have students who would never have dreamed of fly fishing as a hobby, who are now chomping at the bit to test out the various patterns they have been working on over the past two months. This would not have been possible without your generosity! These kids may not be full-fledged “Fly Guys (or Gals)” yet, but many are promising “Fly Padawans”.
Your selflessness, and willingness to promote our passion among young people has provided us with 10 rods, 16 reels (all fully set up with backing, lines and leaders), several tying materials & tools, books, a couple of nets, and many other useful items.
Thanks again for all of your kindness and support!!
Sincerely,
Darren Clark (Logan Lake Secondary)
AKA deesee
PS – Ice is off Logan Lake (except for the bay near the campground / golf course). Get up and give it a go before the weeds grow over the spring, and start tickling the bottom of your boats!!
NICE! Thanks to everyone that donated! π π π

Tom
ps – To be consistent, I am trying to record the full ice-off dates. Would I be close for Six Mile and Morgan? Or should I back my dates up a bit?
Tom
Art,
Tom referred me to you, so my question is: any idea why Heffley Lake is so far behind Roche Lake as far as ice off, even though Heffley Lake is apparently 200 m lower elevation?
Edith full ice off today π
Thank you – thank you – thank you !
Courtney lost its winter jacket last Saturday the 2nd as i fished it.
Thank you R C, much appreciated.
tom
Tom,
Do you know what the elevation of Heffley Lake is? I just went for our last day of skiing up to Sun Peaks yesterday (April 9th) and noticed it still isn’t ice free, although it looks close. The FFSBC site says it is only 944 m (3097 ft), but since it isn’t ice free yet, I wonder if that is correct, since Roche Lake at apparently 1145 m (3756 ft) is apparently totally iced off. I would say that Heffley was at least a few days away from total ice off, but it is always hard to tell as you know.
Thanks.
Derek
Derek,
Just to be sure, I just now checked on Google Earth. It shows Heffley Lake at 946 m. and Roche ay 1146 m. A few meters difference is basically bang on.
If you are interested, Google Earth Pro is now a free download, I use it all the time. And I have downloaded everything from the GeoBC Web Map Library as well. Works great with Google Earth and there is tons of information.
Tom
Tom,
Thanks for the info on Google Earth. I didn’t think to check that. I always just go to the FFSBC site. Any idea why such a difference in ice off?
Derek
Actually I am not familiar with either of these lakes.
Art Vandelay could probably give a reasonable explanation – he seems very knowledgeable about those kind of things.
