  1. Can u still make it up to red lake with a car right now ?

    • Benny S says:

Yes. People live there so the road is well maintained.

    • Avatar photo Evan says:

Adrien, the road can get a little slick and muddy in spots this time of year but you shouldn’t have a problem. Watch out for people cutting sharp corners really wide at ridiculous speeds I’ve had way too many close calls from careless drivers on that road

  2. lando says:

Any lakes in the Okanagan/Merritt area iced off? Looking for a smaller lake within a couple hour drive from kelowna. Thanks

    • bcflyfisher86 says:

Hears Kentucky allyne are off and fishing well.. also Courtney and lundbom

      • Dawn says:

Any word on Harmon or Englishman? If Lundbom is off, hoping they are too….

        • bcflyfisher86 says:

Harmon English were all solid last Saturday I’d expect some melt happening but another week or two for kane valley. Christian.. a good sub for jacko could be tunkwa should be hot with the warm Temps c9ming

        • Avatar photo NymphOManiac says:

Kane Valley was starting to come off last Saturday Dawn.
Might be worth a look this weekend…

        • drock31 says:

I might swing by the Kane valley and check it out on my way to Roche tommorow

        • polymot says:

Drove through the Kane Valley on Thursday(7th) all lakes still frozen – slight thawing on the sunny side but frozen right to the edge on the shady side.

  3. Tom says:

Went by Mamit Lake this morning – it is fully Ice-Off, but I don’t have the exact date this happened. Do you happen to know bcflyfisher86?
Logan Lake is 90% ice free, but that hasn’t stopped a couple chironomid fanatics that I see out there!

    • bcflyfisher86 says:

March 28 I belive the ice was off mamit! That south end may be good for chronies here shortly it’s been open for almost a month

  4. Tom says:

And a report from Tunkwa Lake Resort – – –
Tunkwa did ice off yesterday afternoon(April 4), another really early start to the open water season!

  5. Yogi says:

Any report on ice off for Knouff lake area, Community , or Badger Lake?
Hoping to go there the weekend of the April 15.

    • analfin says:

Community is at 4500″ so outta the question for sure! The other 2 could be ready by then

  6. Avatar photo Christian says:

I’m headed back out to the Merritt/Kamloops area on Saturday. I got a great taste of early season action a few weeks ago at Jacko (although the “action” was confined to a few hours in the morning). I think I’ll probably head back there, unless anyone has a better idea that they’d like to lay on me. 🙂 I’ll be sure to post a report on wherever I end up. Exciting times!

  7. gunner says:

    Hey all
Does any one know if Roche killed again this year? Heading there tomorrow.

    • Roche had good oxygen testing a couple weeks before ice off. N
o indication of winter kill from my understanding

    • Avatar photo BCFlyguys says:

Was there yesterday. Ice off all but in the flats. No signs of dead fish or eagles and lots of fish were moving in the shallows. Water a bit murky for my liking but that seems to be Roche lately at ice off. Hopefully it will clean up quickly. Bring your leeches and nymphs as there was no sign of any type of hatch. Good luck!

      • analfin says:

The days of clear water seem to gone at Roche, especially at ice off. It seems for the last several seasons it has been going into turnover almost immediately after thaw. Fishies can still be molested in the shallows tho!

      • coastlogger says:

Has anyone out there been fishing at any other the other lakes around Roche

        • Avatar photo BCFlyguys says:

Other than bleeker none are off, that I know of, yet.

          • drock31 says:

If Roche is looking like it’s turning, I might try bleeker tommorow. Horseshoe should be off as well

          • Avatar photo BCFlyguys says:

I would luv a bleeker fishing report 😉

          • coastlogger says:

I’ve been thinking of heading to bleeker,I’ve never been there but and going to give it a try.Any suggestions where to start in that lake? Any way I will post my report

          • Avatar photo BCFlyguys says:

Look for moving fish and focus there. Good bets are the shallows on either end or the flat out in front of the boat launch.

          • drock31 says:

Fished bleeker for a couple hours today. It was looking really murky but I landed a couple despite the less than ideal conditions. Around 12 the fishing died off and most people left

  8. Has anyone taken Tunkwa for a spin yet? I’m heading up this weekend and I’m about to jump out of my skin, been too long.

  9. Jarrett says:

I thought I saw a photo of Scuitto here last week and it looked as though it was getting close… (can’t find the picture now?) – Anyone know if Campbell if ice free yet? Going to head out that way tomorrow…

    • Avatar photo BCFlyguys says:

Benny fished Scuitto last week. it was not completely ice off but open enough to fish. I would imagine it’s all off now but can not say for sure. Same thoughts for Campbell but check it out if you go …

    • tack243 says:

Scuitto is fully open as of the 5th of April. Very muddy looking though. No bites after 3 hours of fishing leeches and cronies.

      • Jarrett says:

OK – Thanks! we’ll be on Campbell tomorrow and will post an update tomorrow night… Cheers

        • Jarrett says:

as suspected all clear at Campbell – beautiful day and we had the whole lake to ourselves! Did not see even one chronie all day and no interest from the fish in them but did well on ruby eyed leeches in 3-6ft and a few on a bh pheasent tail…

  10. jdmck says:

Fished bleeker today kinda new at indicators didnt touch a fish and only saw a couple caught fished the end left of the launch

    • drock31 says:

All the ones I caught were at the south end of the lake in about 4 feet of water with a balanced leeck

  11. doug gosling says:

Does anyone know anything about the road into Fred Lake? I haven’t fished it for a few years and the road in used to be awful. In fact I’d walk in most of the time but not so keen on carrying my pontoon boat in there anymore…getting old I guess 🙂

    • analfin says:

Pretty nasty, most holes have hard bottom but clearance is the big requirement. The fish size is not worth it for me anymore. There are others that are easier with better fish IMHO.

    • bcflyfisher86 says:

Was in there last year and yes the road is awful but still produces a few N8ce fish

    • Tom says:

Let’s just put it this way – – Remember how it was? Well it is no better, probably worse. But the die-hards still manage to make it in. The lake was mostly ice free on March 17 last year. My best guess is that it is ice free now, but I can’t say how the road is.

      • Art Vandelay says:

There is no way that Fred was ice free on March 17 last year or any other year. Maybe you are thinking of a different lake as Fred is at 4200 ft elevation. It won’t be ice free yet and I wouldn’t attempt to drive in there for at least a week as there will still be a good amount of snow on the road still.

        • Tom says:

Thanks Art, my bad ! I just re checked my fishing log, and it is APRIL 17th last year that I was there and it was mostly ice free. It seemed strange to me in my reply too, I could hardly believe it myself.
Sorry all – especially to you Doug

          • Art Vandelay says:

Not a problem. I just didn’t want some poor SOB to try driving in there right now.

          • doug gosling says:

thanks everyone for their input re Fred Lake. I think I’ll wait now for a bit given that the road is the same.

  12. bcflyfisher86 says:

English in kane valley today.. closest to ice off Harmon and kane are behind but coming along

  13. troutfanatic says:

Hey everyone, wondering if ice is off pass lake and if the lake suffered a winterkill this year, cheers.

  14. Don says:

Hi all. Fished Edith on thur the 7th. All day, disconnected 10 at the boat between 2 of us. disconnected a lot further out. lol fish not big, one 2 lb’er but really scappy. Water murky with some stuff floating. Good day all around. 10 RV’s in site and about 10 boats on the water. Water is really high. No middle launch left. Tight Lines!

  15. Avatar photo Armadillo says:

I fished the Lumby end of Mabel Lake today…Did not catch any fish but caught some good weather….the guy fishing from the dock said he caught a 2 lb and a 3lb er…on a marshmallow……never thought to try that…
