Roche lake as of last Friday (April 1) ๐
Cool but you should be fishing it a week earlier or is that end off limits now.
Fished white lake and if you knew what you were doin you’d probably catch around 10 per day chronie fishing. Most people were trolling leaches close to surface and they were doin pretty good too. I got skunked so looks like I don’t know what I’m doin…
Hey fog…..been there…. LOTS!!! Right place, right time, right fly….ask questions!!! Hubby is horrified but if I see someone catching fish and I’m not, I find most fly fisherpeople are willing to share info and sometimes even flies. I’ve met so many nice people fly fishing I don’t know where to start, including the mods of this site. So very helpful!!! It’s all a giant learning process. Never been to White, but hopefully someday soon.
Little Heffley is almost 100% ice free.
Heffley will be a few days yet.
Scuitto today
Bleeker is just about open today
thanks!
Roche today …….
Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has any info on the Gump lake chain (Tupper, Leroy, etc) I know it’s pretty high up there but we’re looking to try the area in 2 weeks. Also looking for information on Thalia lake. Or any of the near by lakes (Goose, etc.)
Thanks so much!
Tracy,
That is one of my favourite areas. I generally keep a close eye on their progress (as I work in Logan Lake). Logan Lake is not entirely iced off yet, and Tunkwa was not ice free based on the reports from the weekend. These lakes are more open than Gump, Tupper, etc., so they receive less sunlight and wind. They are also a fair amount higher. I would think that they are at least a couple weeks away (minimum). If I get a chance in the next couple days, I will go look and take some pics! I would love to be wrong!!
Cheers,
DC
Sorry. Meant to say Logan and Tunkwa receive MORE wind and sunlight than, Gump, Tupper, etc. And that Logan and Tunkwa are a fair amount LOWER. Better get my brain out of spring break mode before educating our youth starting tomorrow?
Thanks deesee! I’ll be eagerly waiting for your report ๐
Even though it has been relatively hot in Kamloops these days, I wouldn’t expect lakes in that area to be open in any less than 2 weeks and that’s if the warm weather continues.
Here’s another one for you Tom ๐
From the Roche Lake Resort page …
“Good morning!
Woke up this morning to see that ICE IS OFF!”
Once again I thank you.
Edith is ice free and red will be in a day or two
does anyone know if Hidden lake by Enderby is ice free, and
if the snow is off the road
also is Bluey ice free
thanks
Marquart/Lundbom Lake Saturday evening. (April 2).
We drove by Courtney Saturday morning and it was about 20% off. By dinner time it was ice-free.
Safe to say these two will be now also.
Coquihalla Lakes were still good and frozen so I’d say Murray is also.
Good warm weather in the forecast should take care of the rest of them pretty quick though…
Tunkwa was 90% off last night so I imagine it’s all off and logan should only have ice in the shaded bay today. Has anyone fished ware lake near tunkwa? Been stocked for a number of years now..
I have tried this lake a couple of times – no luck. Yes it is stocked every year with “spring catchable”, and I suspect this is because none the winter. It is a very very shallow lake, about 4 feet, with only one small hole, about 20 feet, at the extreme south end. There used to be access from the south from the Ware Lake FSR, but it has been deactivated. There is still access to the north end from the Tunkwa Creek FSR. Launching a boat would be a real pain, and a float tube not much better. Sorry. I do wonder why they put “spring catchable” in here every year. To feed the loons possibly?
Ton
Edit: I suspect this is because none survive the winter.
I am thinking of trying Stump Lake and wondering if anyone could give me any hints… of course I saw the recent posts and the damsel nymphs so that would be a good start…..I have heard that one end or the other is a good starting point….and of course the wind….so have a plan B in mind….
Thanks
Not Stumped yet
Don’t take my word for it but last time at stump it looked to be starting turnover and fishing was bad. I could be wrong though I was just trolling for Kokanee
Thanks Wayne….I was thinking of going Saturday but the weather looks bad….may have to wait a week or 2
ahhh Stump. Hot one day, cold the next, but always big fish potential that keeps ya going back. I have not heard anything about it turning over but it wouldn’t surprise me. The last report I heard was actually quite good … steady action in the south end. If you go I think you are right about starting at either end. I would probably start at the south end and then move north if necessary. If cronies are popping fish them. If not the micro leeches and damsels … or a small slender olive micro leech that can cover off both at the same time. ๐ I think one of the toughest things to figure out at Stump is where the fish are … and it’s a big lake so you could spend a lot of time looking for them. But if you find them, and can get into range, then I think you will do OK. Good luck and please report back.
Don’t forget about bloodworms…. An absolute killer for me at Stump sometimes!
Yes this is true! I have a fly that I classify as a micro leech but it’s thin and bright red and I’m sure that the fish often take it for a bloodworm.
The access point for Skmana Lake is usable now, and Skmana is iced off.
Harper Lake has shed all of its ice as well. It is drying up there nicely, but I’d still want a 4wd to get to the forestry campsite/boat launch area.
