Drove out to Six mile and Morgan yesterday. Six mile is coming but the warm weather needs to continue.

Despite the below average temperatures of the past week it is certainly coming along…the wait is almost over. If the weather forecast holds we are in for a series of 16 degree days next week which will take care of that ice in a hurry.

      Awesome thanks Tyler!

Thank you to the users that have been helping me trouble shoot the “reply” issues we’ve been having! The bug is in fact in the log in loop & being logged in to comment does solve the problem. It also really helps to reduce spam! So … let’s all please give it a try. πŸ™‚

I’ve tried to make the register/login process as simple as possible by …

    1) adding a login box to the top of the right hand sidebar on every page. You can also register and reset your password there.

    2) if you are not logged in the “reply” text now includes a login link so you don’t have to go anywhere else to log in. You can also register/reset your password there. Once you do log in using this link you will be returned back to the page you were on to comment.

    3) In both of the above, if you prefer, you can also log in via the social media links (facebook/twitter/google/yahoo) provided.

    4) and finally, any problems at all just email me and I will set you up ASAP! πŸ˜‰

*** TIP: if you do not log out when you leave a cookie should be set so that you will still be logged in when you return πŸ˜‰

Thanks for your help with this! πŸ˜€

I am heading up that way from chilliwack this weekend to hopefully get the boat wet. How are things looking at Morgan six mile or white. Any info would be greatly appreciated. If things are froze up still I will spend the weekend throwing rocks trying to break the ice. Haha. Or bring the ice fishing gear???

    • Art Vandelay says:

My gut tells me that your timing will be perfect for any of the aforementioned lakes. I would guess that ice-off is imminent at all of them. If all else fails there is open water at some of the larger valley bottom lakes or the South Thompson River.

      • fishinchicken says:

Thanks art. I have never fished six mile or Morgan. Which of the two would be the best bet between the two at ice off? We usually head to white this time of year but may try six mile or Morgan.

        • Art Vandelay says:

6 Mile is likely the better bet as I have heard that Morgan has been having some water quality problems due to high pH levels which may be killing off some of the fish. That being said, I have found that Morgan is a more consistent producer at ice-off with 6 Mile being a little more hit and miss. I would probably start at 6 Mile, give it a few hours and then move over to Morgan if nothing is happening. Note that the fish might be in very shallow water at ice-off at either of these lakes so look for activity just out in front of the reeds.

          Good luck.

          • fishinchicken says:

Thanks again art!! I’ll keep ya posted on how we make out. Still might head to white but keeping all options open.

Don’t forget folks, April 1st tomorrow means …. it’s time for a new fishing license!

    • deesee says:

Thanks for the reminder!! Still thinking back to March 2010 when I was able to fish at least 7-8 times in open water on the 09-10 license. Oh well, no such luck this year.

    Look out White………………………..

  7. Jayman says:

Does White Lake have any open water yet? Can’t wait to get the boat wet this weekend

  8. fishinchicken says:

I’m hoping white will be thawed by Friday. Anyone that hears any progress please post.

    • Loading the boat up and heading out thur or fri will post the conditions once I’m back.

      • fishinchicken says:

Grandon please post as soon as you can regarding white. I’m heading there Friday and would hate to show up and it still be frozen. Thanks in advance

        • fishinchicken, I called a resort on white lake tonight and was told the lake is still frozen over. I’m sure it will still be frozen over come this weekend.

    • Avatar photo Evan says:

my text’s with buddy from white last night…

“…Any open water on white yet?”
reply: “…not for another week probably…”

  9. Avatar photo BCFlyguys says:

Most likely another one down. Just got this email from a reliable source … πŸ™

“… Hi Rob, I suspect a total kill at Deep. I saw 2 small dead brookies at the east end and a bigger (16 inches) Bow on the South side. Bummer…. “

    • Art Vandelay says:

No surprise there…although that lake usually has a few brookies that make it through the winter.

  10. fishinchicken says:

Anyone drove to six mile or Morgan in the last couple days to see the progress?

    • Art Vandelay says:

Your timing is impeccable as I just got back from a quick spin. Despite the fantastic weather the past few days both lakes are still wearing their winter coats (ice that is). 6 Mile appears to be a little farther along with a small amount of open water showing around the edges. However, rocks the size of softballs are bouncing off the remaining ice. It is entirely possible that it will be at least partially open by the weekend but I sure wouldn’t count on it.

As for White, I have no idea…some years it comes off before Morgan and 6 Mile and some years it is a bit later.

  11. Tom Marchant says:

Anyone know if Jacko ais off yet?

    • Avatar photo BCFlyguys says:

Nope … I’d say probably about 2 weeks away yet πŸ™

    • Darryl says:

      Hi Tom,

Order of thaw is usally Six Mile, then Morgan, then Stump, then Jacko. Six Mile still has not come off yet, so I suspect it may be a while yet (my guess is 2 weeks)

      Cheers,

      Darryl

      • Avatar photo Joe says:

It looks like next week is going to be a welcome run of some decent temps for our region. I hope there’s some wind to help out with opening a few lakes and get things going. The cool temps at night above 3000 feet will finally break over the next ten days if all goes well….could be an interesting year of figuring out where the damage was done.

  12. Jayman says:

Anyone seen how Stump Lake is doing? Need to get to the lakes soon. I tried Stump this time last year, Had an O.K morning until the wind kicked up in the afternoon.

    • Avatar photo JFM says:

I drove to Stump couple days ago, some open water on west side along shoreline and some cracks going across lake. Not much open water at either end. Hopeful that the last 2 days warm weather will bring a change for this weekend. I will probably check again before Saturday….JFM

  13. Avatar photo Burnzi says:

Any reports from the Nicola Valley on hwy 5a south of Merritt?

  14. AdamD says:

Has anyone been up to Deep Lake recently? Hoping to get up there soon if anyone has info on what it looks like for ice off.

    • Darryl says:

Report above (April 1) say Deep may have had partial / total kill.

      • Avatar photo Evan says:

I always enjoyed hiking up there followed by some fishing, but I really think a partial kill might be a good thing, Deep was way too overpopulated with brook trout for such a tiny body of water. Considering that they are triploids, I seen very little growth progress since I started fishing it in 2010/11. On clear days you could see them cruising in schools along the shoreline. I was up there right before the ice was on with my wife n kid and the fish would hook themselves everytime a line hit the water, it always made for some excitement but given the amount of brookies we caught up there in recent years I never once seen or caught one even a lb, they always seemed to stay somewhere around 10″ and quite skinny…we always went back in hope’s of a surprise hook up on the few fv’s that still remained, sadly they are probably all gone now : ( I would love to go back one of these day to find some fatso football brookies out of the 2014 survivors.

    • AdamD says:

Appreciate the feedback Darryl and Evan, I’ll be headed up there on Saturday to see what it’s like. Will report back thanks!

    • A buddy of mine hiked up there this week and saw 6 dead in the small open amount of water that there is. Anybody know how long they float after they kill?

      • Avatar photo Evan says:

…fish first sink when they die, *some* (but not all)will begin to float later on

        • Avatar photo Evan says:

hmm, your question actually had me second guess myself..i did a google search and there is alot of contradicting information out there so I could be wrong…this I know, “some float some don’t” any care to elaborate on this please do! Thx

For those looking North, Dragon Lake still has snow and plenty of ice. We need some rain and warmth, its been a cold spring!
