From BCLakefronts FB Page … looks like Red is ice off! 🙂

Scuitto Lake today. fishing was mediocre, but we picked up a few each on leach patterns. heard there was a good hatch in the morning with a lot of fish biting chironamids.

Monday April 28th at Allen Meadows

Lake was probably 100% ice free on the 25th or 26th. Toured around the lake for 2 hours today – Fish finder did show fish, sometimes lots, sometimes nothing, (I hope that’s what they were). However, not one bite. Saw no floating dead fish, and just two on the bottom, but the water was somewhat murky and choppy and hard to see bottom. Fish finder also showed a layer of crud at 10 to 12 feet. I think this indicates lake is getting ready to turn. Water temp at surface was 44oF. I haven’t given up on this little lake yet – will give it a chance to turn over and check again in a week or two.

    White Lake April 29th

Fished White Lake today with a friend who drove up from the Coast. In a word………..crazy! Double headers, fish feeding everywhere, 30 landed and about 4 dozen hooked in four hours.

We were anchored in six feet of water just down the lake from the Fire Hall. There were swarms of chronies hatching with swallows everywhere. The lake was dead calm for most of the day and the sun warm.

We used light olive and black chromies with a silver and red rib tied on 18 & 20 Tiemco 2457’s. The lake was 54 degrees with gin clear water at the end we were fishing. Dozens and dozens of fish actively feeding all around the boat. We never moved from our original anchor position. The fish averaged 15-16″ with a couple in the 20-22″ range.

    Heading back this morning 🙂

Nice! Did you sample any of the fish? Curious if there were taking bigger chronies as well?

      • Chris K says:

        Hey Guys,

Just got back from a repeat day at White. 29 fish landed between my friend and I from 11am-3pm. The fish averaged 15-16″ with a couple running 21-22″. All chrome silver and great fighters.

We sampled several fish yesterday and today and they were chocked full of live 20-22 chromies with an granny smith green colour segment to them.

Again, there were dozens of fish swimming under the boat and visible on the marl shoals. Both my friend and I caught fish today “jigging” off the side of the boat while having lunch. Pretty cool watching the rainbows open their mouth to take the fly.

Both of us fished size 20 & 22 silver chromies with a lime green wire rib and white bead head. Great day and sunburn today 🙂 Hoping to try Walloper with the family this weekend.

Drove to Badger lake yesterday and it was frozen solid. Knuff only had a few feet of water around the edge. I ended up fishing Heffley lake which was great in the afternoon. Leech pattern at about 15′ was the ticket

    • Art Vandelay says:

Interesting that Badger and Knouff are still frozen as they are at the same elevation (roughly) as Roche which iced-off on April 18th. I would expect that Knouff and Badger will be ice-free by the weekend given the forecasted temps of close to 30 degrees in Kamloops on Thursday. Ice won’t last long under those conditions…looks like the ice-off thread will be put to rest relatively soon!

      • mattsowell says:

Agreed Art. I fished Badger this time last year and after hearing Roche being off I figured we would be OK. At least Heffley produced! Was sad to see that Red was off as I had heard otherwise and decided not to chance it. In any case I know where I’m fishing next week!

    • Nick S says:

i kinda had a feeling it would be frozen over for ya…..weird year this year matty! Red’s open now though! i think i know where we will have to go next monday!!!

  6. Nick S says:

Fished Jacko in the evening yesterday. beautiful evening out on the lake with a buddy. hooked up with 4 fish in about 2.5-3 hours in. one about a pound, another just shy of 3 lbs and the last one peeled me out into backing i have never seen before! had a 30 min battle with this pig…tried to snag me on deadfall, weeds even the anchor rope. still landed em! large male, 24″ and 4.8 lbs, caught and released. had another one snap me off next cast back out. micro leeches in about 2-3′ of water. pics to come.

Anyone been up to Pass recently?

    • Art Vandelay says:

I had a look at it on the weekend and it was still quite frozen. There was some open water on the far shore but no way to access it. I did a little hike along the shoreline near the boat launch and just down the lake at the old launch site. I only saw a few dead fish but they appeared to have been dead for a while. I suspect we will learn the extent of any winterkill up there over the next couple of weeks.

  8. Avatar photo slashhunter says:

Anyone checked out Peter Hope yet?

    • Avatar photo BCFlyguys says:

Friend of mine fished it today. SLOW! A few small chronies coming off but he got his fish on a leech. Throat sample revealed they were on shrimp. I’m going to give it a week.

  9. Darryl says:

    Red Lake:

Fished Red today. The water is really murky and it looks like it might be just starting to turn already. Water temp was 43 F. Did manage to catch four fish, 3 bows and one brookie. Two of the bows were “tiddlers”, while one, the first fish I caught was a 4.6 lb Pennask strain rainbow that was 22 inches. Beautiful fish. The Brookie I caught was 16 inches, but it was not a football, rather it was pretty slender as far as Red Lake brookies go. It was just over two pounds. Did not see a lot of winter kill, just the a few fish – which is normal. One fish was about four pounds, and the other two dead fish I saw were about three pounds. All bows in the bull rushes in the north end. If there was a kill at Red it seems it was minor (i.e., normal). Was using green and black leeches. All fish caught and all strikes came on olive coloured leech patterns and wooly buggers. None on black.

    Cheers,

    Darryl

Any info on Peterhope would be greatly appreciated.

  11. Stillwaters says:

Anyone fished Lundbom recently? How’s the fishing? Has it turned yet?

    • BCKid says:

Did Horseshoe, Frisken and John Frank have a winter kill this year to? Thanks BCKID

      • Art Vandelay says:

Frisken is pretty much a given for a big kill pretty much every year. Horseshoe and JF were predicted to have at least a partial kill this year. Tough times for the Roche area.

  12. LT says:

Just got back from Pass. Went around the entire lake and counted 17 dead ones. Also lots on the finder but I didn’t manage to land any fish 🙁

Arrived at 7:30 was dead calm. the water was pretty murky also heaps of floating plants across the boat launch. Might want to wait a few days

    • Avatar photo Evan says:

      Thanks for the report LT!

    • Art Vandelay says:

I had a look at it yesterday evening myself…counted roughly the same amount of dead ones as you. I wouldn’t rely on your finder to detect fish under those conditions. There was so much floating and suspended debris that I imagine the finder would be picking up all of that stuff. The lake was dead calm when I was there and there were quite a few large flying ants on the lake but I didn’t see so much as a single fish rise. It’s still too early to tell the extent of the winterkill as any fish in the lake are likely hunkered down until water conditions improve.

Has anyone tried fishing Roche? Curious to see some reports.
    Thanks

  14. lucushall says:

Fishings been fantastic at edith cant keep them off tons of half pounders but still catching some nice ones no brookies yet this year

    [img][/img]

    • Art Vandelay says:

Good to hear Edith is doing well. If you want to do the lake a favour, bonk a couple of those smaller fish each time you go. It will give the lake a chance to produce some big fish once again.

Brookies are a weird fish…if you are catching rainbows you likely won’t be catching brookies at the same time.

      • Avatar photo Evan says:

I have spent a lot of time at Edith over the last couple of years plenty of which staring down an icehole and have heard the stories of how it once was, though there is the odd lunker, i would love to some bigger fish as well.

  15. slizzy says:

Hey guys, I’m planning a solo trip out to roche area, and tunkwa area in next few days… Any suggestions for me? I’m going to also check out Peter hope and Edith and a few others… Thx, this website has so much info
