Had a great day at edith had lots of bites and had good day at scuito and Campbell day before fishing has been good so far.
Has anyone been to Kamloops Lake yet? Big fish in there! Had lots of luck last year, 2+ lb rainbows.
Fished Six Mile yesterday – Easter Monday. Fishing was good in the morning but strong winds in the afternoon made things a bit of a challenge. Hooked seven and caught five including three between two and three pounds. I was fishing olive, black and brown wolly buggers and the only colour I caught fish on was olive. The lake is in turnover mode with lots of suspended weeds, but fishing was still good. At one point there were eleven boats or tubes on the water. From what I can gather, it seems like the lake is fishing better than it did last week. Surface water temperature was 49 F.
Cheers,
Darryl
Went to Edith today. Was raining lightly, no fish but SNOWED about 1/2 inch and drove me off! OH well still April. Will try again Friday and hope for better weather.
I have been hearing reports of a lot of tiddlers being caught at Edith. Nothing of size at all so far…
Got about 15 between 15 and 19 inches outta Edith over the Easter weekend and about 10 little guys
Anything under 16 inches is a tiddler…the bigger Pennask fish should be pushing 24 inches or so this season but I haven’t heard of any like that yet. Not to worry as it is still really early. The fish that you got up to 19″ are the biggest that I have heard of so far at Edith this season…keep up the good work.
Any more news on Roche out there and the winter kill situation?
Lot’s of rumors. There are dead fish for sure. As for how many and what percentage of total … still waiting for more facts. As soon as we know anything for sure we will post it here.
Can anyone give an update on iceoff for 100 mile area or more specificly green lake or watch lake thanks
Not really, but I did pass through the area on Easter Monday and noted that Lac la Hache is starting to open up but that lake is about 200 m lower than Watch and Green Lake so I would guess they would open a week or two after Lac la Hache. If I were you I would Google “Sheridan Lake webcam” and keep an eye on that as Sheridan will ice-off around the same time as Green and Watch. My best guess for ice-off at those lakes would be around May 1.

Allen Meadows April 23, 2014
60% ice free – A good wind should just about get rid of the rest, it is really thin and honeycombed. Just standing at the shore I saw maybe 2 doz. dead fish floating or on the ice. I also saw a half doz. eagles on the ice at the north end, probably picking dead fish from the ice and having a feast. It does not look good.
In a week or so I will tour around the lake with my fish finder and see if anything shows up, and let you know how I make out.
Tom
My understanding is that Allen Meadows has suffered complete winter kill. Seems many lakes have taken a hit this year.
Cheers,
Darryl
ROCHE LAKE UPDATE 2014 (via Roche Lake Resort FB Page)
Roche Lake did suffer a fish kill this winter, the worst in 40 years. However, Roche Lake is not dead.
We have spoken with the biologist for this region who surveyed the lake on April 23 and determined that the kill appeared to have occurred only in the southwest corner of the lake. Unfortunately due to spring turn over conditions a thorough assessment of the lake could n…ot be completed.
He suspects the cause of the kill is the combined result of the mountain pine beetle kill/harvesting in the surrounding area and the higher than normal inflow rates over the last 3 years. This would be closely associated with the significantly more intense algae blooms that have been seen on the lake over the last couple of years. When these suspended algae die and decompose through the winter months, the utilization of oxygen is high enough to reduce the dissolved oxygen rates below levels that support trout. This was also an extremely hard winter with early ice on and high early snow packs. We did not experience the typical warming condition mid-winter that reduce the snow packs and increase aquatic photosynthesis.
While it was a tough winter for all the lakes in this region, Roche Lake is annually stocked with up to 25,000 fish and there are still plenty of fish left.
I was planning to take my kids out tomorrow after school in the boat, to catch dinner! Any lakes turned over yet? Something not to far off like Edith, stump six mile? Thanks
I don’t think you can go wrong with either of those Grandon. Timing should be about right for Stump to be coming on but its a big lake and locating fish might take a while … perhaps not the best for an evening fish with the kids. Based on the recent reports Id go with Edith or Six Mile. Check out some of the previous reports for the what and where for both lakes 😉
Hi Guys,
Fished Jacko yesterday with my Father in-law. Landed 10 to the boat and lost another 3. All the fish were 2-4 pounds with some chrome and a few dark ones. We caught all the fish in 1.5-4 feet of water in woodpile at the far west end and the irrigation channel to the east. Size 16 & 18 green and brown chromies with a white bead head did the trick.

Thanks for the report! What a great day for you and pops! 😀
Had a decent morning at Edith today. One really nice fish for that lake, and 4 others average sized. Water was fairly murky, not too bad yet though. All fish caught on either black and red or olive FFF leach.

I’m going to White Lake next week for a couple of days. Does anyone have any info on how the lake is fishing these days. And any tips on which flies to use would be a great help. I have never fished the lake before but I hear there are some hogs
Fished white over the Easter weekend for five days and it was on fire, the lake was starting to turn the day we left so you should be fine late next week. As for flies to fish, we used leaches in the morning and night and chironomids during the day. We anchored in 40ft of water and fished the shoals, the fish were feeding around 12 to 14 ft when we were there but that will change so just find the depth they are feeding at and you should have success along any of the big shoals! Good luck
How big were the fish you caught. I’ve been hearing the bigger ones are few and far between. Whats about size and colour of the chronies, can I pry some secrets out of you?
The size isn’t what it used to be but the fight per pound is one of the best lakes around in my opinion, 5lbs was the biggest we landed, as for flys it will be different when you go but they were full of size 18 chromies when we were there , it’s a crystal clear lake so make sure your flies are tied thin!!
Went to Tunkwa yesdterday as the resort reported Ice Off was was Tuesday the 22nd. Fish were in the shallows but all fish hooked were “Tiddlers” as art would say! 12-14 with only one 19″ fish. All fish pumed were full of size 20 black chromies and red and green blood worms.. The big fish are not tuned in yet bring on some heat to change that!
Fished Morgan today. Hooked three and caught two with both being about 18 inches and about two and a half pounds. Died down late morning and early afternoon. I heard Six Mile had about 20 boats on it in the morning. Wind was not fun.
Cheers,
Darryl
Went out in the whitecaps today at Tunkwa got a bunch of little guys in the shallows didn’t see much for chronies or active fish with the wind.
On another note I was out at beaverdam lake between 70 mile and clinton and it only had about 5 feet ice free along some of the shoreline. The bad news is I counted 162 dead fish walking up the shoreline. A lot of them look like they have been dead a while.

If you counted 162 fish just along the shoreline chances are that you are looking at a substantial or even total kill of that lake. Too bad.
Ya….and that’s a Brookie lake. With this week’s weather we’re going to see some of the damage that’s been done, and some of the lakes that dodged the bullet as the ice starts coming off. Let’s hope we get through the next seven days without too much bad news!
