    Forest Service Road Closures:
It is looking like this year will be very similar to last year, if anyone has any updates with respect to closures around the Kamloops area due to flooding, slides etc. it would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hi everyone, Happy Friday!

I am wondering whether anyone knows if the Pike mountain area lakes are all iced off?
I would assume they are at least in the process of but was curious to know if anyone went this way.

Also, I was wondering whether lakes around Lac Le Jeune would be iced off at the same time or close to it (thinking about Ross Moore for example).

There is sun in the forecast this week-end so I can’t wait to get out on the water.

    Cheers,

    Adam

    • Chaluga says:

Lac le Jeune is approx 4300ft elevation as are some of Pike mountain lakes. I don’t think they would be ice free yet. It seems up to about 3800ft would.be good . Based on previous years and educated guess I’d say another week. I will be going by it tomorrow on the way to Monte. I will update tomorrow morning.

    • Steve Moore says:

Webcams show LLJ still with ice.

Pike Mountain should be ok except for maybe some lakes that get very little direct sunlight ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Thanks for the replies everyone.

I fished Leighton this week-end. No hatch happening (maybe a small one with size 18s coming up around 1pm Sunday but other than that nothing).

We hooked into fish using a size 12 scud hook ASB body, red rid and they would not take any other fly. I only had tied one of those flies and regretted it as I tried a bunch of other patterns next to my mother’s rod and only 3 fish to speak for. She was getting all the fish! Average size was a pound, biggest one close to 3 pounds.

Beautiful calm week-end . One fish did have 2 dark size 16 chironomids and 2 boatmen in its throat but no other evidence of bugs happening.

      Cheers,

      Adam

Lac le Jeune and Stake are open at edges and need another few days. Fished Monte in morning. Was hoping turnover was done but alas it was not. Lots of debris on surface and throughout water column. Not a bite.

Hit Gillis on way home. It was open recently and had a few nibbles but slow. Other boat use a Olive micro leech and had some success. The rec site entrance was filled with snow and Creek flowing thru road.. use the first entrance when you just hit lake.

I have a rod and reel left behind at a local lake that I would like to get back to the owner, name the lake and describe the rod, reel and line, and you can have it.

  5. Ssogi says:

    Hello everyone.!!

Has anyone been to Edith recently?
I’m planning to head up this weekend, and wondering if the lake has turned over yet.

    Thanks again to everyone.

    • Art Vandelay says:

Haven’t been but you should be hitting the lake just after turnover which means the chiro hatch should be just getting going.

  6. Bfishy says:

Does anyone know if Roche lake is in turnover? I want to go there Monday if itโ€™s finished.

    Thanks

    • Art Vandelay says:

The forecast heat-wave should really kick all lakes into gear this coming week. Sunny, calm weather really helps the lakes to clean up quickly too.

  7. troutboi says:

Fished Roche at ice off May 1st, (we might have been the first), it was slow but water color was good. Muddied up by Friday the 4th. I would think it would be a couple more weeks after that to finish turning. Edith still hadn’t started turning by May 6. Not much going on there either.

  8. Don says:

Hi Rob, Why isn’t Pass Lake listed in the ice off chart??

    • Avatar photo BCFlyguys says:

Hi Don, No idea really. We started with an existing list and I guess it wasn’t included. We have been trying to add lakes/dates as they come in though (I’m sure we miss some) so if you have any Pass info please forward and I will add it.

  9. Kachow says:

    Hey guys,

I lost a pyramid anchor to a faulty clip in Jacko last week. If anyone happens to pick it up I’d appreciate it back.

    Thanks.

    Andrew

    Report: Pass Lake
Fishing was slow, bite on for about half hour a little after noon. lots of small bottom stuff from turnover still floating, depends on wind to where its most dense. fish average about 2 pounds, very strong , 4 pound tippit not enough lol. good day anyway, very windy.

  11. troutboi says:

Anyone been to Edith or Roche lately. Just wondering where they are with turnover.

  12. Chris K says:

Heading to Edith tomorrow for a half day. Will post a report tomorrow night.

    Cheers,

    Chris

  13. cliffy says:

Hi. Fished Roche for 5 days Troutboi. First day was slow. Friday and Saturday were excellent!!! Lots of fish. Biggest was 6lbs. Lots of 20-22 inchers. Sunday sucked re winds. Monday was back to big fish. Size 14 0r 16 gun metal with red rib or similar. Small sizes only. Good hatches. Saw some damsel nymphs around. Worth a try. Other lakes in the area were fishing poor. Heard there might of been an ant hatch. Should be good by now.
    Cheers

  14. Chris K says:

    Hey Troutboi,

Just got back from four hours at Edith, 9am until 1pm. Fishing was great, for Edith, and I landed over two dozen fish.

About half a dozen were 10-12โ€ brookies. There were another half dozen Pennaskโ€™s that were 21-22โ€ and about 3 pounds. The rest were all cookie cutter 18โ€ Pennasks.

I was fishing right out from the boat launch in ten feet of water six inches off the bottom with indicator rigs. I was using 12 & 14 chromies with a black bead and black rib.

The fish were all tight to the bottom and I was only fishing 6โ€ up from the bottom. The takes were very light and most of the time the indicator didnโ€™t go under. If you didnโ€™t setup right away they were gone.

There were tons of chironomids coming off and the fish had lots in the throat samples I took. One week ago they were all on daphnia and the chironomid fishing was really slow.

Only saw two boats tucked in the back left bay fly fishing and a few trollers. The surface water temp was mid 60โ€™s. It should continue to fish well for the next few weeks now they are keying in on chironomids.

    Cheers,

    Chris

Great report Chris thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚ Having troubles posting images here so here’s the FB page embed ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • Art Vandelay says:

Haha! Very interesting. I took the kids up on Sunday as it is always an easy place to catch fish and wouldn’t you know I saw maybe half a dozen chiros come off in a couple of hours of fishing. I focused on the south end which usually is covered in chiro shucks at this time of year. The wind was blowing hard too which did not help in any way. Managed to get a brookie in the shallows on a pheasant tail nymph as there were a lot of mayflys coming off, some small tan caddis too. Apparently the other end of the lake was fishing better, but still, I was really surprised at the lack of chiro activity. I guess even when you think you know a lake well you can still be surprised on occasion.

  15. troutboi says:

Thanks to Cliffy and Chris K for posting reports. Heading up to Edith for the weekend with a little more confidence now. Will report when we return.

    • troutboi says:

Fished Edith may 25-26 -27. Very windy, very slow fishing. Managed 4-6 fish per day. Not much in the way of hatches but there was a small bite at 3-4 pm. Brian Chan was actually there on Fri. (filming a show I think ) and he left after half a day with only one fish. Or so I’m told. Sad. Gotta get better soon.
