Headin out on the biggest trip of the year,,,,pulling in to Roche late sunday May 7,,,for one or two day,,,then over to stump for a day or two,,,, then finishing off the trip at Peterhope for the 12,13,14,15!!!
Should i have any concern about Roche lake being in turnover,,,or stump or peterhope? Im thinking peterhope and stump will be fine, just a little worried about Roche.

    • Jesse says:

I was up at Roche last Sunday. April 30th. It seemed to be turning, around 2 feet vis and 40 degree water we did manage some action but it was slower. In my experience it takes a while to clear up but the fishing normally picks up before that. I would imaging it would be settling out by the 7th and the fishing would be picking up. With the warm forecast likely even some chronies starting to pop.

Thanks alot Jesse, I figured it was going to be close. Thats exactly what a wanted to hear!!!
When i get back from adventure,,,i’ll be sure to share pics and a story.

        • was at PH last weekend. weather was all over the place but fishing was still good. right on the edge of the dropoff when the wind was down was great with a balanced leech, blood worm and gomphus. when the wind was up we tucked into the bay to the right of the launch and were getting lots of smaller fish on small cronnies, asb/red and olive/red butt were good for me.

    • Kevin Ayers says:

I was also up at Roche. North end of the lake had better clarity than the south, however there was only 2ft visibility. Everything happened in tight in shallow water. Lake was dirty but very little vegetation in the water?!?!? Leeches were the ticket for us.

    • 5A Flyfisher says:

Never made Roche or Stump on this trip unfortunatly, concentrated all efforts at Peterhope,,,, and caught a tonne of fish,,,think the biggest fish brought in was about 23 inches. Had a few break offs on violent takes,,,, would have loved to get those ones into the boat.
All on black micro leeches and size 16 zuchini silver rib. During the main hatches they were hitting the micro leech just as hard as the cronies. Ill put a couple pics on FB page.

    Hey everyone
A buddy and i are planing to head up to peter hope on the 12th-14th of may. Does anyone know if it has turned over or will possibly be in turn over around that time.

    Thanks in advance

    • 5A Flyfisher says:

Cya up there,,,,we will be the ones in the bright yellow duraboat with our rods bent in half.
The last three years ive never seen much of a turnover at peterhope. But with the ice coming off on April 22, if there was a turnover most likely it has come and gone.?

  3. dryline says:

That can’t be true for this year. That ice is either off or will be imminently!

      • analfin says:

yep, I’m with Art on that one……

        • Avatar photo Evan says:

Quick way to be certain, would be to call Knouff lake resort…(ringing)…yep…Ice is Off!

          • Art Vandelay says:

Good to see that my instincts are still honed.

          • hunter fisher says:

i called yesterday before i read this and they told me it was still a week away from being iced off! liars!

            ps badger is iced off

Hunter Fisher, In their defense…It iced off sometime yesterday and perhaps to them it looked a week away and just misjudged. It’s amazing how fast a lakes ice can dissipate, especially with some good wind. I’ve personally fished lakes where in the morning you’re breaking up the ice and by the late afternoon it’s 99% all gone.

  5. rockysuperman says:

Damn when the wife says no around this time of year to go grrrr….

  6. Anchor Management says:

Anyone know if any of the pike mountain area lakes are ice off?

  7. Mark Kriese says:

Anyone fished Courtney yet? Thinking of heading up there sometime next week

    • Mark Y says:

Fished it the last 4 weekends. Slow the first 3 weekends, picked up last week but very spotty and short periods of bites. Last couple of days it has turned off completely – perhaps the falling barometer?

  8. Eric Burtch says:

Anyone have any reports from Roche over the past couple days? Just wondering if guys are catching any, as I’m sure the water is still murky

  9. rockysuperman says:

Can anyone tell me if harmon is iced off now?! Wife gave me a green light to go fishing!! Heading up Tommorow…

  10. coastlogger says:

  12. rockysuperman says:

  13. Greg Plummer says:

Web cam shows the ice being off Lac Le Jeune…………….Came
off over the weekend as on Friday it was still iced up.

  14. cliffy says:

Hi. Fished Lundbom Sunday. Lots of boats. Not great fishing. (Was a near full moon.) Ended up landing 5 to 4 lbs. Leeches were the ticket. A few chronies coming off but nothing to get excited about. Need more warmth. Was told that killed fish were stuffed with big worms. Pumped one and out came a worm. The lake being so high must have something to do with it. Still a nice day on the water.

  15. Hi everyone!

Does anyone have an update on the Pike Mountain lakes? (Thalia, Clifford, Lodwick in particular) Just wondering if they’re iced off and how the way in is looking? (snow conditions) We’re hoping to go fishing and camping there next weekend.

Thanks so much as always πŸ™‚
