Fished Edith today, sad to say, not a fish was caught, not even a nibble.

    • Art Vandelay says:

Edith should be turning over right now. The good fishing will resume once the water clears and the bugs start hatching. Edith always seems to take quite awhile to clear during and after turnover.

  2. Darryl says:

Red Lake is now ice free. Was posted on Lakefront Cabins FB page.

  3. jimbobs says:

    Yellow & sawmill are open.

Thought I’d start posting over some fishing reports to go with all the ice off info πŸ˜‰ Peterhope (thanks Josh!) …

    • 5A Flyfisher says:

Yeah,,,they we voracious,,,got a bunch of dragons and leeches in throat samples,,,,all mixxed with those chironomids.

  5. lando says:

Anyone know if Gardom lake has turned over yet?

  6. jimmyray says:

Community Lake is probably still iced up! Road is snowed in at the 2km mark! So close!!!

    • analfin says:

I bet it will be another 2 weeks minimum…..

    • Art Vandelay says:

Yeah Community is one of the highest elevation lakes around Kamloops so it will be awhile yet. Looks like some moderate heat is in the forecast next week (mid-20’sC) so that will get some of those higher lakes progressing. I think Analfin is right, 2 weeks minimum.

  7. troutfanatic says:

Anybody on here know if Dugan lake in caribou is iced off??

  10. Mike Green says:

Hey everyone, I only get two days a week I’m able to get out and fish : ( and after a horrible day at Jacko last week would hate to hit another lake in turnover…could someone please tell me if either Red or Black are in turnover at the moment as I was hoping to check out one of them tomorrow. I’m sure someone here must know? I would appreciate very much any help If you could please?

    • Avatar photo BCFlyguys says:

Hey Evan not sure when you fished Jacko last week but my buddy went Sunday and said it was lights out for numbers and even got a few 4ish lbers all on cronies. Red is just recently ice off and in my experience takes a few weeks to fly fish well. But then again I don’t spend much time there right at ice off so maybe someone else who does can comment on it. Black, like most clear water lakes, again in my experience, really doesn’t suffer from the effects of turnover as much as the shallower soup bowl lakes but the fishing is not exactly easy until the cronies start coming off. The other local lake I heard was fishing good were morgan with fish to 5ish lbs on cronies.

      • Avatar photo Evan says:

Thanks for the response…I heard a couple guys did ok in the woodpiles…I never made my way back there unfortunately

    • paul says:

Hey Evan I’ve fished red lake every year after ice out with the same results each year, and that’s very poor fishing. It’s my opinion that red never picks up till middle of May. I don’t even bother until then anymore.

      • Avatar photo Evan says:

Thanks Paul! Red is always hit or miss for me but I have done extremely well early ice off when others weren’t. But More luck than skill i’d say ; )

        • paul says:

If you want to have fun go fish Beaton right now it’s loaded with fish nothing much over a pound but it’s non stop action and the bugs are popping

    • deesee says:

Some buddies had good success at Six Mile too. Bunny leeches several colours.

Really though “only two days a week”…. what I wouldnt give to go that frequently πŸ˜‰

      • Avatar photo Evan says:

Lol…(any less than that and I think I would go insane. This time of year I got only one thing on the brain.) Yes six mile was fishing decent my last outing there as well.

    • Art Vandelay says:

Damn, i was really only interested in the ice-off timing of these two lakes between 1949 and 1961. Too bad…

  13. markatthelake says:

Hey Guys; Thanks for all the comments. we are fishing Stump next Friday. Any reports?
More concerned to see if the turnover is all done.
I’ll post a report here after fishing Stump.
    Thanks

    • paul says:

It’s a tough launch at stump the entire middle launch is under water and still rising and will continue to do so for some time yet to come. The north end is filthy and fishing has been hit or miss at best, and is likely to continue on as such until we hit a decent stretch of weather.

  14. Chris K says:

Steady pre-turnover fishing at Pass on balanced micro leeches in shallow water.

    • lucarno says:

Anyone know if pass has turned? It’s low so I thought it would have by now. Hoping to hit it tomo

  15. rockysuperman says:

Anyone bin to kane lakes area? I was there 2 weeks ago an it was still iced up, wondering if it’s coming off now? Or soon!?

    • Art Vandelay says:

Without a doubt it will be ready to fish now.

    • Avatar photo Christian says:

I drive through the Kane Valley on Saturday. E-man was thawed (with no signs of fish), Harmon was mostly frozen, and the rest were mostly ice-free. I was surprised at how late they were, considering that Courtney came off a full two weeks before. I thought they would only be a week to ten days behind; but it looked looked like it’s closer to 2.5 weeks this year.
