Just to add some data to the spreadsheets

    Courtney Lake
    2016 – Apr 2
    2012 – Apr 23

  3. Avatar photo Evan says:

Jacko is wide open…100% off I’m not sure? but by the pic sent to me earlier today I can say it’s game on!

    • Avatar photo Evan says:

I should mention pics can be deceiving, so I would like to correct that statement slightly by saying it “appears to be”. Either is off, or VERY close. I’ll be there on the water by the weekend I’m sure.

    Just wondering,
If a lake is half ice free is there anything to watch out for other then avoiding the ice spots ? Never been in those conditions. Using 12′ boat.

    • Art Vandelay says:

You just have to be aware of the ice sheet moving around and trapping you in a certain part of the lake. I have had this happen to me countless times at Jacko over the years. You anchor up in a bay and suddenly the wind shifts and you are hemmed in. Of course, this is only a problem if you intend to leave the lake for some reason…otherwise you just keep fishing.

  5. Dragon Lake iced of today!! Not all ice is gone but will melt by tomorrow.

  6. Eric Burtch says:

Got the boat out on Jacko today. Ice 95% off, should be 100% by tomorrow

  7. toadthedry says:

    Hi
I am planning to fish a lake out by Williams lake in the caribou. It is at 3000 feet. Seeing that dragon is at 2000 feet and will be ice free by tomorrow can someone estimate for me when a lake at 3000 feet closer to Williams lake will ice off?
    Thanks
    Mike

    • Art Vandelay says:

At least another week and likely closer to 2 weeks. Pay attention to the weather forecast as it could happen faster based on local conditions.

  8. Jeff Woods says:

Art-Thanks for the help on my previous post.

On a mid sized say 400 acre lake, in general how long after ice off does turnover occur and how long after ice off has a lake settled down and cleared from turnover.

    Thanks
    Mike

    • analfin says:

That would really depend on lake depth and weather. When the surface temps reach the same temp as water beneath the litoral zone the lake will mix. Heavy winds can speed the process. Usually it will happen within a few weeks of ice off but sometimes a lot sooner. Roche has been seeming to go into turnover almost immediately the last few years.
Again I think lake depth will determine the length of turnover, deeper tanking longer, up to 2 weeks.

      • toadthedry says:

Thanks. So how long after ice off is turnover generally finished?

        • Jeff Woods says:

This is what makes fishing at this time of year hit-and-miss. Generally speaking, turn-over occurs within 7-14 days of ice off. It typically takes 7-10 days for the fishing to improve.

        • Art Vandelay says:

Unfortunately there is no “good” answer to this question. Turnover is highly lake dependent and, within that, variable from year to year. Some lakes seem to suffer no ill consequences from turnover and others offer terrible fishing. Some lakes experience turnover at ice off and other tend to take a week or more post ice-off. As for the length of the actual turnover process, it could be anywhere from a few days to 2 weeks and is likely wind-driven (i.e. if it consistently windy it will not allow the murkiness to settle out). On a particularly strange year I saw Jacko seemingly turnover twice within a month. Not sure if the second event was a true turnover but the water went from clear to murky and the fishing went almost dead. Hopefully this helps you a little bit.

Hi. Any word how close Lundbom is to being cleared. Thinking of going up on Sunday. Stump will be my second choice unless someone has a better idea. Don’t feel like driving Kamloops. Will report back next week. Tight lines to all!!!!

    • Avatar photo BCFlyguys says:

This isn’t a for sure cause I can’t remember, or find, where I heard that Lundbom is off. Hopefully someone can confirm.

    • coastlogger says:

I drove pass Courteney and kidd yesterday the both still covered so I imagine lundbrom is too.. I will be be passing them again on Tues maybe I’ll zip into lundbrom and check it out

  12. How do you get in to Harper Lake? Unfortunately, until I get a truck I am looking for a small, ice off, easy access lake for my float tube.

I tried to find harper but ended up at a No Trespassing Sign as I went up Harper Lake Rd. I DID notice a somewhat rough looking, small road cutting off it to the right. Wonder if that was the road I needed (but likely should not drive the little car up).

    Anyone help?

    Glen

  13. Chaluga says:

Lac la hache is wide open. Williams lake is open as well. Seems anything under 2800 ft in this area. Hitting dragon tomorrow.

  14. Kaledog says:

has anyone heard if Edith is close to being off??
