A BIG thanks to Lando, Tom & Darryl … and with what Darryl was talking about earlier I predict we will be seeing an ice off predictor/calculator function at some point! π (lol no pressure Darryl!)
I’m working on it, just a way for work right now back next week and then I’ll try and get something up there soon as possible. ?Tight lines in the meantime
Monte today … good enough to add to the chart or wait for the slush to disappear? π
Just drove by Monte a half hour or so ago and it’s off. Tonight’s wind blew all the slush to shore. April 1st it is ?
OK I’m calling it … Monte Ice Off 2017 – April 1 π
-11 at 1400m this morning in the Merritt area π
Went for a drive yesterday White is still a while away. Just a bit of water showing in the weeds
drove out to Sawmill Friday, it still be frozen.. ways out still.
should have mentioned but when I drove by Vaseux Mar 31 it was ice off
Also heard today that Barnes was ice off and fishable with lots of little guys on micro leeches π
Judging by that photo I would be really surprised if Edith is ready for Easter weekend (remember that Good Friday is only 8 days away), especially given that the weather forecast looks we are in for more seasonally average temps. I would guess that you are looking at 2 weeks from now based on that photo unless we get some 20 degree weather soon.
I have a good friend lives up red lake and their struggling to hit 10 in the day and it’s cold over night he figures ice off is a fair ways off yet
i was there on sunday and there was still 12″ of ice. 8″ of which was pretty punky ice. so once we get some wind up there it wont be long. that being said i might make one more trip up there this weekend!!
Sawmill still frozen today. Although there were a couple boats that cleared a path 50 feet or so to the eastern aerator. π
Open water around the aerators? Notice any winterkill while there? Thanks
Any chance Dragon Lake in Quesnel could be ready for Good Friday ?
According to Sunny Shore Fishing Resort’s Facebook posts, White has opened up considerably today.
just at campbell was about a 1/3 ice off
Shumway ,Napier ,Ritchie ,Trap and Stump lakes all ice free. April 9 2017.
Went for a motorcycle ride today to check out a few lake near Chase. Niskonlith was ice free but Skmana is still iced over. Took a spin over to the Turtle Valley area and found Phillips to be tantalizingly close to ice off.
Marquart lundbom and corbet all thin with water starting to show around edges as of saturday.
how thin is thin? π like ice off for the long weekend thin?
Im goung to try on monday but i doubt it. Will probably wind up at stump
Thinking of going to Stump for the first time this week. Any hints as to access points where to start would be appreciated
Thanks
If you have a boat and motor, put in at the boat launch half way down the lake by the hwy. If you are non-motorized then continue down to the far North end and you can put in at that beach. I’ve always had the best luck at this time of year at the North end in shallow water. Not likely that you will see any bug action so I would strip something fast and flashy through the shallows at about 2 to 3 feet deep. If you use this method, hold on to that rod ’cause they hit the fly like they haven’t eaten in the last 6 months.
If you have a motor and you don’t get action at the north end follow the shore up the East side of the lake (opposite to the hwy.), there are lots of bays with shallow water where they may be feeding.
Get there early because on most days you will get blown off the lake by 1:00pm.
If you go, you are now obligated to post a report of what and how you did.
Good Luck.
