Ice is off at Roche
I called Roche lake resort, they said the ice was still on and that it would be next weekend.
I sent them an email and they said it was off!!
Just got an email from Lauren at the resort … ICE IS OFF!!! 🙂
WAS AT THE WEST END OF rOCHE YESTERDAY ABOUT 100MTERES OF ROTTEN ICE THEN OPEN WATER SHOULD BE CLEAR WITH LAST NIGHTS RAIN AND WIND
Any news on courtney, lund/marquart yet?
Courtney is off as well as Kidd and corbett
Fished Lundbom last night (Friday) and all day today…really cold, fairly windy and not much being caught. Got a couple of beautiful 2 lb fish on a Pumpkinhead before noon…nothing after that. Left at 4:00 as the wind came up again and there was no action. Water temp less than 42 degrees all day, so nothing hatching yet. Still a bit of ice on the eastern shoreline, so it hasn’t been clear very long. LOTS of people fishing, just not doing much catching. 😕
Any word on hyas or lac le jeune?
Hyas is usually the first to second week of May, and this year seems average.
LLJ is usually the first week of May, usually before Hyas but not by much.
Willy,
Google lac le jeune web cam to check ice off. It will save you a trip.
No need to Google … fishing webcams link available in the menu at the top right of all our pages! 😉
Also in the menu are free solunar tables & a BC Lakes and Rivers info page! The info page contains maps & stocking information on all (most) BC lakes as well as river level data, test fishery results, fisheries notices & regulations, and a whole bunch more! 🙂
No one is allowed to fish Hyas. It’s mine. So there.
I love this site …what a great resource for fishing in the Loops area. Keep up the fantastic work!!
I would like to pick the pro’s brains here…I was at Edith Lake twice this week Thursday during the rain and got nothing today during the nice weather and still zip! I am in a float tube tried a chironomid, leech and blood worm along the shore line by the creek inflow near the reeds all at the far end (it was a little breezy) for 4 hours…nothing. I know it’s called fishing not catching but a little local knowledge would be very welcome. To top it all off as I was leaving I saw a couple from shore land 2.
I’m by no means an pro, but it sounds like you’re just in the wrong place and/or using the wrong fly. I usually don’t stay in the same spot more than a 0.5 to 1 hr max if I’ve tried a few different patterns and I’m still not getting any hits or takes. I’ve always had better luck along the drop-off that parallels the road past the campsites, and along the opposite shore up to the rock point and around the North end. Olive green patterns seem to produce well for me. A friend and I were out Wednesday night and had to have hooked at least 10 fish in the first half hour. Keep trying, and move somewhere else if you’re not having any luck. Good luck!
I think Grant is right.
I was fishing there yesterday along the North bay from shore. Landed a couple super small ones on a green leech pattern. However, they were super small, and I haven’t seen any big guys jumping up yet.
so I think Grant’s spot is more productive, the big fish are probably not around the north shoal yet, should keep changing location until the line is tight.
🙂
Grant
Thank you for the advise. That is what I like about this site a common exchange from fishers that like to fish. Any suggestions as to the best fly or lure….those folks that were catching from some wouldn’t say
I’d try leaches, damsel nymphs, and scuds. The nicest fish I’ve caught out of Edith was just a on a big green and black woolly bugger. I didn’t see any chironomids on the surface when we were there, but I wouldn’t imagine it’ll be long before they start to hatch.
Edith is traditionally quite difficult in the first two to three weeks. Within a few weeks, the water will clear and the chiro hatches will pick up (quite densely). You’ll be more likely to have success then, particularly if you’re fishing chiros. The mouth of the east arm is a popular area.
I was at Edith all day today, Tried every part of the lake. Chromies, black with red. black with silver rib, chrons, micro leaches, green with maroon tails, Black with maroon, straight black crystal dub. had two hits on green & maroon leach, landed one real small on the black crystal leach. was there from 8 until 3…lol. only seen one other boat with 3 fish. All caught in the north east arm on slow drift. very windy after lunch. Oh well was a great day fishing (not catching) lol
Fogot to say Fish Finder was full all day, everywhere from 5 feet to 35 feet.
At this time of year at Edith you are going to want to focus your efforts in one of the bay areas of the lake. Target water that is between 6 and 15 ft. in depth and use small leeches and move them really slowly as close to the bottom as possible. This is most effectively done by anchoring and using a floating line with an adequate length of leader and a strike indicator if you prefer. If you see chironomids hatching then fish chironomids wherever you see them coming off.
Has anyone been to Stump Lake this week? Wondering if it is turning or not.
Thanks
Drove by today and besides being stupidly windy it seemed clear enough to see the shoals and structure from the road. Not sure if today’s wind would have triggered and turning.
Stump is turning super super murky!
Just got back after two hours at Stump. As Willy said, super murky and in turnover. Suspended junk all through the water column and 55 degrees on the fish finder. Two fish to the boat at the North end on an immature damsel in about three feet of water and that’s it. Saw two other boats catch a few fish in the two hours but nothing like two weeks ago.
Tight lines,
Chris
Just got back from 4 days at Horseshoe lake. The lake was half iced on Wednesday, and two days later it was completely ice off. Only managed to get two fish to the boat, one was about 5 lbs, the other 3lbs. Not much happening, only saw 2 fish rise the whole time. No winter kill noted.
People are reporting that Roche is in full turnover mode so not worth fishing.
Roche is in turnover? I thought the ice just came off 2 days ago? What gives?
I”m not sure why it turned over so quickly… maybe the wind? I didn’t observe it myself, but numerous people were reporting it was too murky to fish.
Would love to hear more about this as I’m heading up middle of next week. Thanks all!
I fished the lake on Friday and it APPEARED to be in turnover as there was only about 1 to 2 ft of visibility. I did manage to get a bunch of fish at the north end though so there are still fish to be had if you perservere. The water looked exactly like this last spring at ice-off as well. It should get better from here on out.
Anybody goes to leighton next few days please report in. Thank you.
just back from pass. ice is off but lots of floaters
It: At Pass did you catch anything…any bites at all? You noted that there were lots of floaters, just wondering if if may be a total kill. It sounded that way from the Ministry guys.
no I was not fishing just hiked along the shore saw 30 or so dead 6+range. I talked to a couple fisherman they had no action my guess is a partial kill just by the number of floaters I saw
Going to scuitto tomorrow, has anyone heard hiw the fishing has been/flies that have been working? Any info would be great!
Hi Jordan, I was at Scuitto on Thurs. evening in the big wind and rain. Temp was probably around +6. There was fish splashing on the surface pretty much all over the lake. I have no idea what they were feeding on. I saw no signs of bugs hatching. However I did notice that in the shallow water a lot of leaches about 3 or 4 inches long swimming. I suspect the big wind might have stirred the bottom up and got them moving. I tied on a black leech and fished in about 4 feet of water and missed 3 before I finally got one about 17 inches. the bites were very light. Weather was fierce but still enjoyable. Good Luck!!
Any suggestions on some float tube friendly lakes I should try this time of year?
What area are you aiming for? Fast action or bigger fish?
Well, both i guess… I have two weeks of vacation so I’m hoping to get out to a few different lakes. I’d prefer to stay within an hour drive of Kamloops. Any suggestions would be really helpful! Thanks
S.N. There are a lot of lakes to choose from: Morgan, Edith, Jacko, Red, Horseshoe, Rose, Tulip, and Black to name a few. I would have included Pass, but it looks like it winter killed. All of the lakes I listed, with the exception of Morgan and Jacko, have both rainbow and brook trout.
Cheers,
Darryl
Has any one been to Campbell Lake this Spring. If yes, please report on ice-off and road conditions.
Thanks
Lumberjac
If you read back on the forum a few people mention Campbell, and unfortunately they claim it looks as if it winterkilled. However, Scuitto looks alright if you’re set on fishing in that area
Thanks for the response Buddy
Anyone got more info on campbell winter kill ?? its my favoite lake im pretty choked
im gonna set the record strait and im gonna get fish outa campbell
Apparently it was only a partial kill and fish have been caught there this spring.
Thanks, Art i will sleep easy tonight knowing thats:lol:
I fished Campbell on Sunday the 29th and caught a dozen in 90 minutes. Nothing big but the action was good.
Met some fellows at the boat launch that had caught 4 larger fish ( 2 to 3 pounds).
Lots of other people catching fish on the lake.
It would seen that the winter kill was only partial.
Thank you for your response, Kent
I fished Lundbom yesterday… weather was nice but fishing was tough. only managed to land 2 fish. no surface activity and all fish marked where down 35+ feet. chatted with a few guys that said first thing in the morning was good but shout off very quickly. Ice off was thursday afternoon.
How about Bridge Lake?? Anyone know if the ice is off?? When do the silvers become active??
Any word on Peterhope lake?
Peterhope, like a few others near its elevation, is ice off but fished slow this past Saturday. It looks like we’re in limbo for a while 😕
Fished Courtney on Sunday. Beautiful day, fishing not so good for me but learned a lot from a couple of guys we got to know there. It is fun when you can meet people who love fishing and are willing to share the wealth of knowledge that it takes to fish different lakes in a variety of situations. Thnks David! Here is a pic of his caught and released Courtney beauty! He caught four of these right beside me and I couldn’t manage one during that time. I tried to mimick his retreive but just wasn’t happening for me – got to love it! I caught 2 for the day and my friend, Stan caught 7.
