  2. Ron W says:

March 30. Ice cracking at Stump. Fissures run from the eastern shore to the open water behind the island at the north end. Ice is dark and translucent. Birds of prey are poised to scavenge as the ice breaks up.

  3. Blaine says:

Shoreline at Edith unsafe, went up this morning and the 80lb dog went through about three feet out. I myself will be staying off till open water. Couple spots of open on the shoreline

  4. Lance says:

Do anyone know about Beaton Lake? it’s quite close to kamloops lake and 6 miles, just a little bit off Hwy 1.

I saw that lake on the fish stocking report, but does not show up on the regs. so don’t know if it’s privately owned, or with age restriction, or something else?

    Will appreciate any answers. 🙂

    Some photos of the day!

Fished for a few hours, roughly 2-5pm. Fished a few different leech patterns. Black & red micro leech with red bead head seemed to be most productive. Only had type 6 sink line so I was inventive with a floating line and threw a couple bigger split shots on for dad to get him down just a few feet on a floating line. Took him right over a few fish surfacing and Wam-O! Biggest was around 2.5lbs. About 5 boats on Morgan, 7 boats on Six Mile. No one seemed to be slaying them unfortunately but there were fish being caught. All in all a great day!

Posted pics and a video on the facebook page.

April 1 : Don’t forget to buy your new fishing license!!! If you purchase on line you can do so here! 😉

  7. Darryl says:

Went to Morgan today are dragged around some big streamers looking for those big fish. Had numerous hits including one that almost ripped my rod at of my hand. Didn’t land any though, most were just quick sticks, but still glad to get out there. Few boats on Morgan and Six Mile was a gong show. I counted 19 vehicles when I left at 1:30 today (April 1) parked at Six Mile. Saw one guy with his family fishing from shore at Morgan and they landed a nice one.

    • Lance says:

Yeah, Darryl. didnt think theres so many people since it snowed this morning…
the fish fought extremely hard today, almost landed a good one around 12′ fighting like he gained 5 pounds during the winter :-D,, too bad, lost it 10 feet away from me as I could see his size:cry:
but looks like everyone is having a good day though, hopefully i will have one too next time when I go up there 😀

      • Darryl says:

Lance: Yes, at first there was no one at Morgan and I thought with the snow people would stay away, but they came. Morgan was not too bad though for a first Sunday…however, Six Mile, as I posted, with really busy. The family fishing from shore that landed a nice one was using red + black chironomids…not sure what size. To answer your earlier question about Beaton, I heard it winter-killed. Planning on hitting Morgan this Thursday. Stump should be ice free soon then a week to 10 days after Stump, Jacko comes off.

        • Ryan says:

When we checked out Beaton a few days ago there was around a couple dozen birds hanging around the lake. Ravens and Bald Eagles. Couldn’t find any fish remains or see them with any fish but they were obviously accumulated for some kind of food source… dead fish possibly

          • Lance says:

Thanks so much for the update about Beaton, Sam, Darryl & Ryan. 😀

love this blog! saving people gas and time
            😉

    • Jordan says:

Darryl, that was most likey me and my dad that you saw fishing off the shore at morgan, we were fishing off the shore at morgan and I landed a fairly nice rainbow.

      • Darryl says:

Jordan: Was that you two in the chairs that came up to see if the ice was off, or were you with the family with the young child? Either way, I am glad to hear you got a nice one. It was my first time fishing Morgan and although I didn’t land any, given the hard hits I got and given Lance’s story (see post above), I will be back. I think i was fishing with slightly too large a streamer and going to fast. Will correct for that next time on that lake and will also try some microleeches and chironomids. Was using larger streamers last year in lakes stocked with Fraser Valley and Blackwater rainbows and did very well. I know Morgan has Fraser Valley strain rainbows so I do not think I will give up on the streamers yet. Ok, hope to see you out there.
        Cheers,

        Darryl

        • Jordan says:

Darryl, maybe it wasnt me because it was just me and my dad. We were shore fishing with black and red size 10 chrionomids in 10′ of water with the indicator set at 4′ of depth. I uploaded a picture of the fish I caught on the flyguys facebook page. Thanks! Hope to see you guys on the water soon!

          • Rob says:

Hey Jordan upload to facebook must have failed … upload the pic here if you get a chance or just email t to me and I’ll post it for you if you like. 🙂

          • Darryl says:

Jordan, ya, there was a family fishing using red and black chironomids as well and work for them too. Simon, yes, I remember you…we spoke for a bit. I love those Rebel boats by the way. I imagine 6 Mile is going to be supper busy this weekend. I am going to try Morgan again on Tursday and possibly Monday. I might go over to ^ Mile of i am not getting anything from Morgan. Perhaps i will see you guys there.

            Cheers,

            Darryl

        • Simon says:

Hi Guys. Saw both of you at Morgan on Sunday. I was the guy in the white Rebel boat. My buddy was in the float tube. I got a nice one but it was really dark, hardly fought at all. Weird. Hopefully we’ll hit 6 mile this weekend.

  8. Chris says:

Anyone one have any recent updates on burnell/sawmill lake?

    • calvin says:

Anyone planing a trip to sawmill lake(burnell) for the easter break will be disapointed to know it is still frozen ,looks like it will take enother week before ice off..just returned from oliver thursday afternoon april 4th

      calvin

      • Rob says:

Hey Calvin just got an email from a bud in Kelowna that fished Sawmill yesterday (April 6). The ice was not completely off but there was enough open water to launch and they had a great day! He sent in a story with pics … should have it posted soon so stay tuned 😉

  9. Darryl says:

Stump must be close, right? Anyone know?

    Cheers,

    Darryl

    • Rob says:

30 feet of open water a week ago … warm windy days since … hmm … I’m thinking it’s got to be off or very close! I can’t go tomorrow but if nobody reports on it by Friday I just might take a drive out to take a look.

      • Art Vandelay says:

Rob, I heard that Stump is not off yet and is still questionable for the weekend. I was planning on hitting it on Saturday, but I am not sure about that now…I think you should take that drive tomorrow and let me know what you see 😆

        • Mark says:

Thinking of heading there on Monday if it is open – thnks ROB. Have never fished Stump as it is a little larger than most lakes we fish. Not sure where to start in a lake like that. Any advice – email [email protected]

        • Rob says:

Stump is almost all ice off and the North end is fishable! I’d guess it will all be off by the end of the weekend.

The morning was beautiful but, as usual for Stump, it got windy in the afternoon. The fish were scarce but if you could find them they were eating damsels & tiny chironomids.

          [img][/img]

        • Rob says:

Had enough fun yesterday to warrant another trip today … they’re on chronies! 🙂

          [img][/img]

Also saw a guy doing well with bloodworms and another guy slaying them for a while retrieving something at warp speed ❓

Good luck to anyone planning to give it a go!

          • Darryl says:

Rob: Hope you don’t mind, but I was wondering if you could tell me when you fished Stump on Sunday was is completely ice-off?

            Cheers,

            Darryl

          • Rob says:

To my surprise it was about the same as Saturday when we got there but it lost a good chunk more over the day. The North end was completely open other than a few floating slush balls and I’d say the South end had ice equating to less than a quarter of the whole lake. I’d be really surprised if it wasn’t all gone by now. Hope that helps! 🙂

          • Darryl says:

Rob: Thank you for the update on Stump. Really appreciate it.

            Cheers,

            Darryl

  10. Lance says:

hi guys, when’s the best time to fish kamloops lk by cooney bay (the big rock) for the bows?

    • Rob says:

April’s the month Lance! Adam’s already been out once and did catch a bow but figures it’s still a bit early. Should get better daily from now on.

  11. Arek says:

Edith frozen solid, gate to Jacko closed inks was frozen so im guessing Jacko is too.
Fished 6 mile yesterday got 2 small ones trolling small black/red leach and one around 2lb on small black chronny… slow overall and cold as hell 🙂

  12. Darryl says:

Fished Morgan today. It was slow for everyone in the morning (Thursday April 5), but in the afternoon it picked up. Got a 17″ torpedo (1 lb 12 oz) to the boat at around 2:30 pm and then about 20 minutes later I hooked into a much. much larger fish. Brought him to within 5 feet of the boat, but I ended up losing it. I would guess somewhere around 4 – 5 lb. Good day, just wish it would warm up, which it is supposed to this weekend. Have a good weekend everyone and update us with your stories.

    Cheers,

    Darryl

  13. Shaylin says:

Does anyone know what the kane lakes area is like? I was hoping to be able to get up to Ricky/Johnny in the next few weeks.

    Thanks!

  14. Justin says:
