May 19, 2010:
Well after 3 weeks of straight graveyards it was definitely time to go FISHIN’. The ice had been off this lake 14 days and we we’re a little worried about turnover. The great thing about this lake is that it has springs feeding it so it comes post ice-off pre-mixed a little bit. The fishing reports had been unbelievable but just like the lakes down there last weekend the fishing was good not great. All the fish hooked were big though, smallest being 3 lbs!
The fly of choice (best producer) was….you guessed it a mini black leech. Other flies that worked were mini maroon leech and green/red chironomids. The one fish kept was stuffed with dragons! Will definitely follow that lead next time out.
Weather this weekend calls for highs of 4C and rain/snow mix. Ah life in the North. Plans are mid next week a sneak away fish. Will keep you guys posted.
P.S. the big ones were 10 and 12 lbs!
