There are no regulations prohibiting the fishing of burbot at night in our region … but always check the regs for when & where you are fishing before heading out.

Ya like it was cold that night and im in a belly boat, so where about would the camera go. City makes the walk longer than it should be, Even the rail road was a long way. So packing the tube with the gear I used was alot. Yes no rod, just the tube, and nero’s,fins, a spool of line, the bait and the hook was a lot for me. And by the time I got home all I needed to do was skin ,filet then sleep. no time to seach thro boxes looking for my camera. So if no one believes , thats there issues. All I can do is say, how, what, when, where the rest is up to them. And give everyone some of my infomation ,experinces to catch fish. They can go from there. so good luck to all and keep them lines tight.

Swan lake im vernon has a good population of big burbot. Caught a lot of em this fall bottom fishing near schools of yellow perch. Averaged about 3-4 lbs n caught our limit within a few hours on cut bait. Ugly as hell but makes amazing fish n chips

I also beg to differ on the point made here on the burbot not being fighters or hard hitters. Maybe its the fall fish but every single one we hooked gave us a good fight pulled hard n slammed the bait.

Is Chicken livers or gizzards my best bet for bait? Would 9pm be too early to start fishing? Anything advice would be much appreciated

Well if you talk to Adam he’ll tell you that 9 PM is too late this time of year but I think it’s just right. Stinky chicken works (see Ollies comment above) … I usually stock up whenever Adam cooks and use that the next day (kidding) 😉 Roe also works and as an added bonus you can go Salmon fishing to get it! As for advice it’s mostly a patients game. Sometimes locating where they’re hanging is key … change up locations till you find em. And when you do get one nibbling hold off on setting the hook too soon (hard to do I know)! Goof luck Evan!

9 too late? Hmm, maybe I’ll start just a little earlier, I’m not really big on staying out ’til 4:30 in the morning, but whatever works to catch one, looking forward to trying anyway, maybe this weekend (depending), got lot’s of Salmon roe from fishing trips to the coast this past year. Vedder and Fraser are great but I still can’t wait to get back out on the ocean (…or an icefree lake :S !)

Thanks for the info! (If I go out and get one I’ll try to get a pic to post)

Cool article. I use dead sticking in the heat of the summer up in the NWT on the Liard River for these big fish. Usually pass a leader through a small baitfish, caught fresh, with a heavy weight through the eye of a long heavy duty leader….and wait patiently. Late summer is good for these fish up here…and they make the best beer battered fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. Cheers!

Ya I tryed casting for them at kamloops lake in early march 2013 off the shore near the river mouth with squid all I got was suckers. Ill try chicken livers next time. Ya think mabey if I walked down by the second train tunnel would be a good spot? its about 100′ deep there would love to hook into one.

If I had to guess (pretty hard to know for sure when you’re casting out and then letting it sink) that we are mostly fishing them between 25 – 30 feet deep. I know when we used to be allowed to fish them at Nicola, and when we do fish them at LDR, that we are not fishing any deeper than that. But you never know until you try so giver! 😀

Where would be the best bet to go? I tried by a train tunnel last year at Kamloops lake, but didn’t get anything. A few tips would be nice.
