So this year we wanted to try to keep all of the ice off reports in one post. We decided that the easiest and most efficient way to accomplish this was to use the comments / reply section at the end of the post. Might work, might not but we’ll give it a try and see how it goes! Check it out below! 😉

Thanks & come on ice off!

Just thought i would let people know that by the time I left Edith today It seemed all the ice was off. I fished the lake today and yesterday. I found the morning slow but it heated up in the afternoon on both days. I was catching fish on a #18 tiemco 2547 static bag chronie and the reliable pumpkin head leetch. Nothing big today but lots in the 8 to 14 inch range. Yesterday I hooked into 5 good fish landing 3. The biggest had to be pushing 5 pounds. All fish were caught in 3-8 feet of water. Good luck all.
Any one know what the lakes in the Merrit area are like, or a site for that.
We are going up that way next week for 5 to 7 days.
Where the fish you caught primarily rainbows or brookies?
Hi Dion, every fish caught was a rainbow.
New off ice picture is up at Roche and looks promising. Has anyone been through the road to Bog / Ernest this year? I’m hoping to fish Ernest this weekend and hoping the stars will align that their is no ice and the road is good enough to get through (4×4 good tires). I’ll be bringing the chain saw and a couple grunts so we’ll be clearing out any downed trees from the road if needed. Any info would be great.
Based on how this year is progressing compared to others, I wouldn’t even think about trying Ernest for at least 10 days. We’re almost identical timing to 2008 and that year I tried to hit Ernest on May 7th and it was a week away from icing off. Never know, though, no 2 years are exactly the same….
Thanks for the info Adam. I’ll be heading up there Thursday night anyway and we’ll at least go for a little drive and check out the area if it’s still ice or not. If Bog still has ice I’ll turn around and go to Black and follow that procedure if need be. If no ice, keep on going. I’ll basically go as far into the bush as possible without hitting ice and hopefully make it right into Ernest. I’ll let you guys know how it went on Monday. Hopefully no winter kill…
Curt,
The drive itself should be no problem. When I found it frozen a few years ago there wasn’t any snow on the road in from Black. I’m fairly sure Black will be solid but let me know if that has changed!
If nothing else, enjoy your drive.
Hey Curt,
I took a rip by Black yesterday afternoon and was shocked to see it almost frozen to shore. I didn’t go any further than that, but Ernest is usually the last of the Roche chain to open up, so I’d guess Adam is bang on with suggesting 10 days. Frisken was mainly frozen except for a small area in front of boat launch. Roche was open (northern 2/3rds of the lake) as was John Frank (no idea about survival there). Tulip was half off, Rose was almost all off and Bleeker was off.
Thanks for the info Ben. I’ll probably stick to either Horseshoe or Roche and go for a drive one of the days and see how Black is making out. I’ll let you know how it goes. Cheers
We ended up going to Horseshoe for the weekend and didn’t bother going any farther. Fishing was slower but we still managed to pull out quite a few nice fish. I think I’ll head into Ernest for early June…
Is there any more news on Campbell? I heard a nasty rumour regarding winter kill….is it true? The 12th is rapidly approaching, and I’m getting nervous…
If Campbell really is dead, is there someplace to park a small trailer at Scuitto? Thanks!
Dawn,
You’ll have no problem finding a place to park a small trailer. Type these co-ordinates 50.551539,-120.135959 into Google maps. There is even a outhouse there.
Wow! That was pretty cool! Never tried that before. Isn’t technology (and helpful friends) amazing? Thank you, Ken.
Any news on ice off at Duffy lake?
Anyone know what the merritt area lakes are like? How’s Peter Hope? How bout Harmon??
Check with Fred at the Power Keg in Merrit.
Heffley Lake is just about ice free at the east end, launch bay but still some ice over most of main section. Probably clear by weekend.
Is there any word about Davis lake near Princeton.
Pinaus and ladyking in westwold are ice off but ladyking has sever winter kill, lots of floating fishing and eagles…
As of yesterday morning Roche lake is 100% off…let the gong show begin
WOO HOO!
if anyone finds a 10′ milano fly rod in a blue milano case at scuitto lake could you please notify me at 778-475-1576 its my prize posession and i left it there 🙁 please and thank you!!!!!
I may go there on Friday night or Saturday…if i find it i will text you right away. Is there reception at the lake …and how was the fishing? Turnover should be happening soon right? It’s been two weeks!
Oh don’t worry about it I went all the way back there last night from vernon and luckily for me it was right where I left it but thanks anyways. There is reception at the lake well with an iphone anyways but yeah right where people usually camp at theres reception and on the back side of the island there is also reception. Fishing was slower then usuall caught a couple 2lbs, then another 4 1/2lbs and also lost a few. They were all caught on a black micro leech while trolling. There was a chronomid hatch going on but never had any luck with that. Well when we there was no clumps of bottom floating on top and the water had no algy in it aswell so I believe its just starting to turn over or it already has, I’m leaning to just starting to turn over!
Hey guys, I have to say this website is amazing. I have found out the answers to some questions that have bug’d me for a few years (like chroni fishing, lake turn over and several others). But now that the as kissing is out of the way down to business. I was out on Jacko last weekend (with the wife and four kids and the dogs) and did not have any luck at all. I watched a couple guys pull in a few nice ones but went the day without a bite. So this weekend I was hoping to take a trip up to Pass and was wondering if any one has been up there yet? Well thanks guys for the awesome web site, keep it up:)
Pass is ice off and fishing well!

Tunkwa & Leighton are fishable! 😀
I noticed another Steve on this site so I switched to what everyone calls me at home Poge. Anyway I also am interested in Pass ans Is Stake Ice off yet?
Hey Poge if you register with the site then no one else can use the name. 😉
As mentioned Pass is ice off and fished well for me on Friday. My guess is that it will continue to fish well till it starts to turn – which I think will be before next weekend.
I heard an unconfirmed report that stake was soft on the edges but other than that still covered with ice.
OK, Thanks Rob. I am leaning towards Stake on the 15th. but not sure. Plateau could be good as well . What do you think.
