Well, now a new year of ice off anticipation to look forward to. Hardwater is still a drawing card but I oh so miss stillwater. So happy New Year to all and tye, tye , tye.

It’s a cycle eh Don. The ice will be around for a while yet, and in the meantime we can post our ice fishing reports here, but the new year always finds me anticipating the open water season. 3ish months to go … almost enough time to get the fly supply in shape πŸ™‚

Lot’s of people on Monte today πŸ˜‰

  3. Planning a trip tomorrow to Red, any ideas where to start drilling those holes? Never been to Monte either, anyone have an update on how it’s been the last week?

I usually either fish the south bay (brookie bay), the narrows or around the small island on the north end. I know lots of people that swear by the big island too. Red usually gets a lot of winter action so keep your eyes open and I’m sure you’ll be able to see where the fishing’s good πŸ˜‰

  4. McConnel turned out awesome for us, took a while to find the spot but we eventually did. Nothing too big but the action was steady.

  5. Gene says:

Does anyone have some info on Monte. Last winter I fished it several times and it was a bust. The water was murky, this was the first winter that I noticed it. Sure hope this winter is better.

  6. FishinKid says:

Looking for a lake that would be good to go out and do some brookie ice fishing? Also any tips will help! Kinda new to ice fishing and this forum!

A timely article for those looking to put some fresh water sockeye on the table! πŸ˜€

    Ice Cold Kokanee!

  8. FishinKid says:

Fished Idabel Lake actually on Sunday! Up Highway 33… Was slow… Landed 3-4 brookies from 1-2lbs on Shrimp… On the side by the  creek in about 8 feet of water… ice was thick but there was a gap in the ice where there was about 2 inches of water then more Ice ontop…

  9. Fishing has been amazing for me the last week. Been out a lot and limited out every time, and today within 30 minutes. Hope I don’t have to return to work anytime soon. ” alt=”tongue-out” />

  10. Here’s a little video I put together today showing the action and comparing different baits that were working and weren’t.

There are quite a few lakes within 40 minutes of Kamloops that have been producing well for me FishinKid … Edith, Stake, McConnel and Rose are worth a shot” alt=”tongue-out” />

I am planning a trip out to Red and Tunkwa this week.

    • The Force says:

Nice work Grandon. Yea, I would say you were on the spot…steady action! Meal worms are generally the ticket for me as well, though some days store bought shrimp seems to be the ticket. If you like experimenting with baits give Anise oil a try. You can get a small bottle at the bulk barn for $1.50 or so. I haven’t tried it enough yet to have an opinion but some guys swear by it.

  11. Hey FishinKid, if your looking to get out this week, let me know, i’m going solo up to Red.

    • FishinKid says:

I will for sure however I am outta town this weekend! Let me know how everything goes though! Anyone have any other lakes around kelowna that is good ice fishing ?

  12. me and my dog says:

Went to Knouff on Tuesday and had a amazing day

  13. Avatar photo luckofthedraw says:

Edith has been steady for me and the kids. Good to get them out, yet close enough to pack it in early if needed. Red and/or Monte next week. I’ll let you know how that goes.

Here’s a FB link to a meeting for anyone near Kamloops that’s interested in the new Wildlife Allocation Policy.

Thanks for posting LOTD! If you believe that residents of the province should have a voice in what’s done with our wildlife please show up and hear the facts.

    • Art Vandelay says:

Please continue to fish Edith through the ice.  Keep as many of the small fish as you can (legally) so the lake can actually start growing some nice fish again.  I am being serious here, the lake is overstocked and some fish need to be trimmed from the population…

  14. FishinKid says:

fishes red lake today… Not even a sniff… Completely skunked.. Heard of 1 other fish caught

  15. Avatar photo luckofthedraw says:

decided.  We’re going to Edith in the morning, as reports at Red seem to be slow.  Monte in the afternoon if all goes as planned.  I’ve never fished Monte, any tips?  Thanks LOTD
