Hi. Where is Deep Lake located, can’t find it on Google Earth. Anyone help me????
You drive up Westsyde road to near the end of Westsyde. Drive up Ida Lane to the top. Then you need to hike up the hill to Deep. The hike should take approx 30 minutes depending on which route you choose. Watch out for ticks. The grasslands are crawling with them this time of year.
Thanks, Better not take my dog then….
Anyone know if Morgan has started to clear up?
Not yet but the fishing is still good I haven’t had a bad day yet since the ice has come off. Fished six mile for a bit today and did well also.
Thanks for the info.
I was wondering what worked on 6 mile at this time of year. Are there chrionomids yet?
I heard it was in turnover. Has it cleared?
Thanks in advance.
Morgan often takes a couple of weeks to clear up after ice-off. Don’t worry about it, the fish are usually fairly cooperative there.
Great! Thanks for the reply. I’ll try it out this weekend.
Is stump fully thawed yet?
Stump was 100 % ice free on April 2nd.
Cheers,
Darryl
Hey All,
Headin down to Kamloops on Wed and hopin to get on some water for the day. Anyone reccomend a lake w/o ice within 30 mins or 1hr from Kamloops? Prefer electric motor only lake, but will go wherever I can.
Still another 10days or 2weeks before my area is ready (interlakes). Lac La Hache showing water at creek by the north end. Good progress at Williams Lake today, three large cracks a foot wide crossing the middle. Not fishing lakes, but good indicators for surronding area.
Not a ton of options as of yet. Monte, Morgan, Six Mile, Barnes, Stump and maybe Jacko by Wednesday.
I’m thinking Stump might be my plan. Is it easily accessible? Just dropping the wife off in kamloops for the day while I take our daughter fishing, so will only really have a few hours.
Stump is super accessible. The launch is right off the highway. Go slow though or you’ll drive right past it. Good luck!
Stump’s south end shallows turned to pea soup Thursday afternoon.
Is it ok to fish when the lake is in turnover? Sorry, I’m a rookie π³
Sounds like winterkill at a couple lakes….(assuming the reporter’s got his facts straight)

It’s just based on dissolved oxygen readings under the ice. Don’t put too much stock into it. Most of these lakes are on that list every year and sometimes they survive (at least partially).
Due to a late cancellation BC Lakefronts has Red Lake Kamloops Cabin rentals available for the month of May! For those of you who not familiar with red lake, it’s famous around here for BIG Brookies & Monster bows … and May is the best time to fish them! For rates & dates email [email protected] … tell them the flyguys sent ya and get 15% off! π

Thanks Art for your comment regarding the Daily News story. I’m sure Steve is just passing on oxygen levels as you’ve stated. The surprise is Horseshoe. A friend was on that lake two weeks ago and said there was a lot of action. I hope the larger Rainbows were not too affected. I’m also optimistic that with the temperatures we’ve been having the ice is off early and saves some of the fish that are at risk. Always appreciate your input.
No problem Joe. That’s a great sign if fish were being caught recently.
Is ice off Scuitto and Campbell lakes yet ?
Another couple of weeks at least I would imagine.
Cheers,
Darryl
Had to do some ice breaking this morning, but Jacko was fishable and 99% clear by the afternoon. fishing was slow.
Thanks Grant , Now for a few days. And it will be hot
And on a weekend too! Tomorrow should be interesting π Thanks for the report Grant!
It was excellent first thing in the morning and then slowed down considerably. That weather system that blew through probably didn’t help much. Hit my first fish of the season within 10 seconds of the fly landing on the water. Not a bad way to get things going!
Anyone know if ice is off of Lundbom near Merritt yet?
Anyone know about Beaton?
It’s Jacko time!

Thanks Matt! Hoping for a full report from ya soon π
5 feet of ice free water around lunbum, wished marquart from shore and got 2
My son-in-law in Enderby tells me Gardom was ice free on Thursday April 4th, and that on Friday – – “a couple of old guys had got their limit (2 each) and they were between 4 and 5 lbs!” Nice!
