Someone says caddis to me and I think of the various sizes and colours of the ones that come off in the Peace, Pine and Halfway rivers. But that’s only for a second or two as the hard wiring in my brain kicks in, my eyes glaze over, and visions of Traveler Sedges flash on the inside of my eye lids. Yes Traveler Sedge, the Arnold Schwarzenegger of the Caddis family. If you have ever been fortunate to be on a lake when these big boys are coming off you won’t soon forget it!

The Shark's Caddis Larva Fly Pattern

Developed by Radoslav Kiskinov, the Shark’s Caddis larva fly pattern is a very simple and realistic fly imitating the Caddis larva.  It’s main trait is the body of twisted Antron yarn with hare’s fur. It’s main purpose is to catch fish – which it does very well when the trout are on the sedge larvae!

Sheridan Lake Sedge Pupa

The Sheridan Lake Sedge Pupa

This little beauty is the brain child of Ken Baker. The story is that he developed the fly for British Columbia’s famous Sheridan lake but it’s definitely not limited to that body of water.  We have used this Caddis pupa pattern in many of the lakes in the BC Interior and when the sedges are active it’s a real doozey!
