Ice Fishing 101!

Monday, November 28th, 2011

We love ice fishing! You want to know why we love ice fishing? OK, I’ll tell you why we love ice fishing. Ice fishing is one of those sports that almost anyone can do! You don’t need a boat or motor or a truck to haul them both. You don’t need a bunch of fancy fishing rods, fishing reels or fishing lines. You don’t need an elaborate anchoring system. Hell you don’t even need a large supply of flies or lures. It is simplicity at it’s best AND it’s something you can do with the whole family!

7 pounds of ice fishing fun!

oh & did I mention you can catch some monster fish too!!!

Now of course you could spend all the money you want on fancy gear as they make as many gadgets and gizmotrons for ice fishing as they do for any other sport. But this article isn’t about that. This article is about the ice fishing basics. Ice fishing 101 – how to have a blast pursuing big BC bows through the ice on a shoe string budget! …….read on to find out how!

Why Fish Feed The Way They Do?

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

... what a beauty! This summer, my friend and old school chum, Pat Harrison, came up for his annual fishing trip. On the first day, folks were catching fish on a large Chironomid and corky. Pat had always wanted to try fishing with a corky so that evening we stopped at Wholesale Sports and he bought some corkys and a couple of fly patterns similar to the ones we had been shown.

These flies were large, had a bead head and were thinly wrapped with various colors of shiny tinsel. I sorta chuckled at Pat’s purchase because these flies didn’t look like any Chironomid I had ever seen and were longer than all but the biggest Chironomids. However, the next day Pat caught fish with these flies and corky as long as there wasn’t any retrieve. The fly had to be perfectly still without even a wind drift. Meanwhile (more…)

Fall Fly Fishing Strategies!

... nothing beats fall fly fishing!

Fly Fishing in the Fall

By the time you read this, it will be mid-September and we will be into the Fall fishing season. Oxygen levels are high but the days are getting shorter, the sun angle is down and the aquatic plants will soon start to die. (more…)

Fly Fishing Beyond the Seasonal Peaks!

Thursday, July 21st, 2011
....... fish on!

Summer time fly fishing in the beautiful BC Interior!

By mid-July, the quantity and frequency of our “hatches” will be past their seasonal peaks. Those bugs that come to the lake surface to turn into adults (Chironomid, Mayfly, Caddis, Dragonfly and Damselfly) will all be hatching in numbers below the annual average for the rest of the year.

That doesn’t mean that it is time to put away your fly rod (more…)
